    Gun storage!

I live in the city a block from the ocean. I have a big *** trunk that is hidden and that I got some locks and such on so it is a pretty secure setup in my opinion in a room that locks. But I am only renting a room, and this is also where I keep surfboards, towels, and wet stinky wetsuit. My window also faces west and when open my room is filled with the prevailing salty foggy winds out of the northwest.

I do not want my guns to get rusty salty and gross sitting in there since I know for sure I am in a high salinity and high humidity environment. I can't afford a fancy safe right now and this is becoming more of a concern because I just bought an AR. Is there any moisture absorbing devices meant specifically for guns or high salinity environments? I did a brief google search but I'm not sure what exactly you guys use or what is best

    thanks!

There are indeed devices that keep moisture away(low power heaters keep condensation from being an issue, then there are moisture absorbers in various forms that may need baked/drained/etc. periodically).

However you may want to consider keeping your guns extremely well oiled(basically painted on after cleaning them) and then bagged.

clp coating and a gun sock...its what I've seen recommended for ocean front living.

there are gun socks, but I was thinking more along the lines of something like these:
Browse a HUGE selection of hunting rifles & shotguns, gun parts, gunsmithing tools, reloading equipment, ammo, and more! Brownells: Since 1939

There are a few companies that make similar products at various prices. Basically you have a bag that no moisture or salt is getting into at all.

I haven't personally had to deal with this problem, but it's what I've seen suggested in the past.

Just use Glocks only - can't you store those in saltwater indefinitely, with no trouble?

Get one of these: http://www.sentrysafe.com/Home_Defen...Defense_Center and glue a rubber strip around the door opening. Add some discussant packets or a safe dehumidifier.

That "safe" does not weigh very much so you'll want to hide it in a closet, but if you add a rubber strip to the door it would get a good seal to keep moisture out. It's small enough that it can fit even if you are only renting a single room.

I think they have one a the GunVault in Mountain View (or at least they did a week ago) so you can look at one before you buy.

You could do the same with any sealed gun cabinet or small container that is airtight if that is too expensive (or if you need more space). In a pinch you could even use airtight plastic storage boxes, but seriously get a safe of some kind.

Even on a Glock the springs, firing pin and barrel will eventually rust. Anything with exposed iron-containing metal can rust.

Give the weapons a good cleaning, oil them up including the bore; wrap them in an oily rag and put then into a tupperwear box after spraying the interior with LPS 2.

              Air tight.
