    what would you do????

this is hypothetical what would you do if this happened to you i know what i think i would do. plus somethings to think about.

if you have your ltc and someone tries to car jack you at gun point and your alone what would you do?
(I would let him have the car if i didn't see him as a danger other then taking the car. being i don't keep any other keys with my car keys just for this reason. plus as a add precaution i have a switch with a timer wired into my ignition so once flipped it only runs for 5 minute. now what would you do)

now what would you do if your wife and children are in the car?

now also think about this if you get car jacked and you are alone the car jacker now has your address and the keys to your house to throw a twist in it? your know you will be held up waiting for the police and then even longer while they are asking you a million questions. during this time the car jacker could be at your house emptying it or worst?

i know there will lots of different answers and that is what i am hoping for being the way the police/court will look at things different choices some might keep us out of court.

this is all from a conversation i had with a friend today.

What do you think would happen if the 'you' in your hypothetical were an off-duty LEO? Why should an LTC be any different? Key words are "gun point".

I would vacate the vehicle and ensure my family (if present) did the same. I would then inform the carjacker he would probably want to locate a better vehicle if planning to use it for a getaway/high speed chase, etc.

Honestly, if I could get the drop on him, I would shoot his a**. Someone putting me or my family at risk of death or severe injury would catch a few to the head. With that being said, if he was clearly on me, and I couldn't safety draw and fire without endangering my family or myself, I would just give him the car and call it in to the police with the license, a description of the guy, and a general direction as to where they were going.

Another 'what if' conversation with a 'friend'

Someone points a gun at you, and if you think you are fast enough, because you have practiced drawing and firing thousands of times, with your seat belt on and from your Serpa retention holster under a jacket, at point blank range, yea who do you think is going to be dead? Too bad for you.

Wife and kids in the car?, you better be willing to sacrifice everything, including your life, to make the perp dead and keep your family alive.

Do you really have a CCW permit? or is that part of the 'what if'

If you decide to get in a shoot out what are the chances you get hit in the process? If the wife and kid is in the car what are the chances they get hit in the process? If the perp already has their gun pointed at you what are the chances you could draw and get a well placed shot off before they clipped you? As much as I HATE the roll over and be the victim method, I'd rather be an alive- car-less-victim than a dead hero.

Then again if it appears the perp is planning on taking the car with the wife or kid-o it's game time.

Cars can be replaced. Lives cannot neither yours nor his.

Hand the car over and just walk away to call the cops. Of course all of that goes out the window if he threatens your wife or children.

Give him the car . . . . but it is another reason to have a Prius, my key is in my pocket the whole time, he drives away and a little while later the car dies when it goes out of range.

This scenario is also a good reason to have a PO Box or work address on your car and insurance registration instead of your home address, nothing has to lead you home (and don't program your GPS to show you how to get to your house).

I'd grab his arm, roll up the window and drag him around.

                        I mean why not?

I'd like to see how many carry that "extra" knife for instances like this. "He had a weapon officer and I feared for my life!"

Self and family preservation first and foremost; next, make sure the bad guy is dead.

One reason for not pulling up too close to the car in front of you... is that if a carjacker attempts to take your car, you have some room to maneuver. Just moving the car forward 3-6 feet leaves him either standing there or off balance trying to move with you. It also gives you a second or so to draw your weapon.

Ideally, if you're alert and aware of your surroundings you'll see him approaching or have enough warning to deploy your weapon. When he commits to the carjacking, you perform as trained to neutralize the threat.

Now, if the guy is good and has very good control of the situation, there's nothing to do but get out of the car. If your wife & kids are in the car and cannot get out rapidly, you have to decide whether to engage him or not based on the circumstances.

If alone and he gains the driver's seat, move behind the door pillar, draw and fire through the window. Of course, this may make the car uninhabitable until it's cleaned and repaired. A prosecutor may argue that once he obtained the car the danger to you had passed. But you can argue that his demeanor, actions and/or statements indicated to you he was a serious danger to the community at large.
