    Shooting story

Ok, so not much story to this one. Went to the range today - sprained left wrist, amputated left index fingertip and all. Took my 9mm and went through 100 rounds in about an hour. Even with it being Veterans Day only half the range was occupied and it emptied out to only me and one other shooter inside of 15 mins.

I normally use a target with 5 bullseyes/6 inch rings. 20 rounds in 5 round strings per bullseye. All sets are done DA first shot, SA all others (1 DA 4 SA per 5 shot string) My scores:

#1 (10@ 5' feet/ 10 @ 15') warmup set - 87 (ewww! TWO flyers; one high and one left, and 5 others outside the rings)

    #2 (20 @ 15') - 99 (7 outside the rings)

    #3 (20 @ 25' - 120 (4 outside the rings)

    #4 (20 @ 25') - 123 (2 outside the rings)

    #5 (20 @ 35' - 126 (1 outside the rings)

By set #3 my wrist was HURTING and my fingertip was telling me it doesn't like recoil at all. Especially when I try to use that finger on the front of the trigger guard to support my shooting hand. OUUUUCH! I had to change grip position on shot #2 from normal to wrapping my finger under the guard and over my right hand/fingers. My finger really hurts right now and my wrist is swelling up again. The price I pay for being bored I guess.

Lots of big bore stuff when I got there. A .50 DE was on the line about 3 lanes down. HUGE muzzle blast. A guy could get a flinch from it without even firing it (explanation for my flyers?) There was a couple of big revolvers on the other side of the DE - I know one was a SA Ruger cuz I saw it. Beautiful with simulated ivory grips. They really set off the blue.

Guy came in about set #2 and set up next to me. Proceeded to shoot the eye out in his first 5 shots with a .22 at 35 feet. Of course he was using a rifle with a scope on it (cheater!). He left after those 5 shots so I think he was just sighting it in. Guy came in with his 2 young boys. They took turns shooting a .22 semi auto and a revolver. Couldn't hit squat even at 5 feet but they enjoyed themselves. Had the youngest one watching me with huge eyes after group #3. Hope he didn't learn my bad habits.

That's about it for today. Geez my arm hurts.

Wow man did you lose your fingertip recently or does it always swell up and give you grief when you go shooting?
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

I "exploded" the very tip of my left index finger about 3 1/2 weeks ago in a tablesaw accident (looked like a dropped melon). I lost some tissue, 1/4 of my fingernail, and some nailbed. It looked like someone took a bite out of my finger. There's some nerve damage too and I got lucky that it wasn't worse than it is. It's regenerating very well and doesn't look deformed but still hurts like dickens whenever I smack it accidentally.

My wrist was sprained at the same time from the machine torquing my arm. I have a largish lump from the swelling just behind my watchband and on the tendons controlling my wrist. It's a PITA but I'm healing and will be fine in another few weeks or so.

Now if only my accuracy would improve as quickly... [sigh].

I wanted to go shoot today, but ended up having to work. Were you in Oxnard, or somewhere else, because I figured they would be closed.

Went to Shooters Paradise in Oxnard. It's the only place to go now that they closed Grant Park. The Rose Valley Gun Club is too far to drive in my truck what with the cost of gas these days. (Besides, RVGC is only open to the public one day per month and I shoot more than that. I also usually shoot during the week instead of the weekends and the RVGC is only open to the public on the weekend.)
