    Best electronic earmuffs?

Hi guys, I bought and returned a "Caldwell eMax" electronic ear protection set because it sucked. Not enough passive sound protection (22 db?) and there was constant static. The instructions said "Proximity to cell phones may cause static"...So what part of the planet do you have to be on to not have cell phones near?

Anyway, what are good electronic muffs that you guys have tried? NRR 26+ would be good. 29 or 30db would be awesome.

Bonus is you can plug in an MP3 player.

I would want a pair not just for shooting, but I like to wear ear pro when I'm working in my workshop cutting wood, metal, etc. Also for when my kids are fighting.

Pro Ears are very good IMHO. They work as advertised, and worth the $.

          I like my Peltors, but I don't think they're 26+

Peltor Tac6 worked well for a while then went all fuzzy in one ear. Apparently it's a known tech problem.

Peltor offered to repair them for what I paid for them. Off to the landfill with them.

Still happy with my Peltor Tac7s though. I bought them before I had the problems with the other pair.....

Not quite the nrr you're looking for, but I've been extremely happy with the leight electronic earmuffs. I plug my mp3 player into them all the time and can hear conversation from far further away than I can with normal hearing.

To get a 30db reduction just double up. Surefire plugs plus sordins to hears range commands. Foam plugs plus sordins if I have to stand next to a tank brake.

Yup. Those are the ones. $60, good isolation, low profile, good sound, easy on the batteries, and you can plug in a radio to use them when hunting. For big bore guns or when someone's firing with a brake nearby, I add foamies and turn up the volume a little.

+1, they may not be the best, but for the price or anywhere near that price, they can't be beat. I use my surefire ear pro along with the impact sports when I shoot indoors.

+1 on the Leight ones as well... I've had mine for about 6 months now. Still using the original batteries and have not had an issue. If you get them, make sure you put your name on them... At the IDPA shoots I go to, I swear at least half of the people have the same ones!!! That's gotta say something!!!

I have been using the Howard Leight electronic muffs for a couple of years.

They amplify ambient sound that is not above the hearing damage threshold. What this means is that I can wear foam ear plugs, put the HL muffs on, turn the volume all the way up and still hear conversations while getting some really GOOD hearing protection. This layered approach seems to be working well for me going on 2 years now.
