It's nice to see a bay area "tech" company that isn't anti military or anti American

That may be the case, but Google is anti-gun which could be interpreted as being anti-mil/U.S..

For the last four or five years I've been writing and complaining. The public affairs people gave some bs talking point explanations.

Kudos to Google for acknowledging veterans day.

I wonder why a WWI helmet was chosen instead a more contemporary PASGT or M1 helmet ?

You do know it's on 11-11 for a reason, right? Armistice Day and all that.

Google was criticized for not making the logo for the holidays that some people did not like, while criticzed for making logos that some people like.

For example, on 9-11 google did not put any logos and some dimwits criticzed them for it. Now that google does one for Veteran's day it's a sign of them being American.

Just the first paragraph from the article:

Google Accepts Porn Ads but Refuses Those for Guns

                      October 07, 2003

Capitol Hill (CNSNews.com) - A federally licensed firearms dealer in Connecticut is upset the Google search engine will accept ads for pornographic websites that illegally show their materials to underage children but will not accept ads from licensed gun dealers selling a legal product to adults. A spokesman for Google said Monday that the policy is "part of our terms and conditions."

                      ridiculous.

Obviously more pervs than firearm enthusiasts in charge of defining Googles terms and conditions.

Google put a logo that had pictures of helmets on its logo... they seemed to have removed it.

Google has, until now, steadfastly refused to acknowledge Veterans day. This years logo has been a long time coming......but only in the US. Google Europe, Asia, and even here in Iraq (Google Italia) did not show the logo. Google has also been highly critisized for not promoting Remembrance day (their Veterans day) for Canada, England, Ireland, and Australia, with a poppy (Flanders Field reference), that only lately they have grudgingly given in to.

Nope, Google is just plain anti-US Military, anti-gun, and seemingly anti-American all too often.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero
