The things that keep us from enjoying our hobby

So, I've been stuck out of work, and barely mobile, for the last 2-3 weeks, and outlook is that it may be at least a month before I can return to work. I've herniated 3 discs in my low spine, and the pain when the nerve is pinching is ridiculous. I can't bend, I can't reach, I can't carry much weight, I definitely can't hold any weight out from my body, etc. I just went and had an epidural steroid injection last night.. we shall see how much that helps in the next few days. Damn I hate feeling like an old man already. (I'm 25)

Just before I injured my back, I placed an order for a new scope for my rifle, and was really hoping to hit the range at the end of November with a few buddies. That one seems to be on indefinite hold right now. (and I had the money + ammo set aside, ready to go.. I've been itching to try out my new scope too)

So, what holds you back from shooting? Here's a visual as to what's holding me back. (the white stripe you see on the right side is my spinal cord.. the black bulges into it at the bottom are the herniated discs)

Aww man..been there..Nobody can understand the shooting pain in your back & legs unless you have been there..sorry..wouldn't wish this on most.

What stops me from shooting is the fun usually experienced. I prefer outdoors with reactive type targets. Not a outdoor range but open country. Since moving back to CA (from AZ ) I haven't done much other than making sure I haven't forgotten how..lol
It was a weekely thing in AZ...mainly to sharpen defensive skills with LE friends.
Indoor ranges are a last resort for me...I just don't like the thought of breathing lead filled air...I have been on a few roof tops at CA indoor ranges and lets just say their filtering system was way over due for cleaning...by about several years

      OUCH!!
      My roof leaks= $3500.00
      Tire's for my beloved Bronco= $1K
      2 more tires for my Suburban= $600.00
3 kids in sports and scouts= God only knows how much that is.
...and if that's not enough, I've only got about an 1/8 of a tank of gas.

Finding time away from work and allocating enough money to make it work.
"Then there are sheepdogs. The sheepdogs are the bastions of safety. The sheepdog lives solely to protect the flock and confront the wolf. They live for the opportunity to be called to duty to protect the innocent. The sheepdog has fangs and the propensity for violence but hopes that he will not have to resort to it. However, he lives for that day when he will be able to use his warrior skills and mindset to keep the wolf from harming the sheep."

Finding time and having the money set aside have always plagued my ability to get out and shoot.. even more so once .45acp started coming up in price. (first gun was a Kimber Custom II) I'm no where near ready for kids yet, (thank god my fiance isn't either!) but I am sure once I do settle down and have kids, I won't be hitting the range much for a good long while. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that I won't need back surgery. As I have scoliosis, rather than a discectomy, the next step for me will be a lumbar fusion. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this ESI at least helps somewhat..

                You can say that again.

I do have a nice small collecting going, but having ammo and time to feed them is my biggest obstacle, maybe even time more than anything. I can always scrounge up some .22 but if I don’t have the hour or two to use it than what’s the point.
Nevermind that fact that I only shoot when I am back home in CA...
