Starlight Scope help... Vietnam era.

I recently took possession of a Vietnam era Starlight scope, model number MX-8201a/PVS-3 and from what I garner it was manufactured by Varo Mil Sys. in Garland, TX sometime in late 1967.

Specifically I'm interested in finding a way to mount it on a picatinny or weaver rail and I'd also like to know what it's worth. It works, lights up bright and the optics are fair- it could use a cleaning, but I have no idea how to sight in a night scope.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If its projects any light forward to illuminate the target its illegal to mount. I have never used one so I don't know. Other than that it appears to have a mount system. DO NOT modify the scope! If you have to have custom machining done, have a custom rail/mount made. Personally, I would mate that to a period M-14 and never ever use it.

As to the comment about illumination, the key is in the word 'Starlight', it magnifies ambient light.

If you decide to sell it put my name at the top of the list. I carried one just like that in 1966 on a PBR in Can Tho.

Did you even read his/her post?? Have an adaptor made that will allow you to keep the scope as is, AND let you mount it to a modern rail. That not only seems your best bet IMHO, but it also keeps the scope as is, which keeps any value it may have since that was something you seemed at least marginally interested in...

look up pvs-2 mount. Ive seen m14, m16, and a galil mount for those. Try whatacountry.com

I was under the impression that by posting this thread you were soliciting opinions, so I stated my best suggestion and commented on two other posts.

Without having the thing in hand or an exact model number and reference material, it is impossible for me to say XYX mount from Gander Mountain should do the trick.
