    Stolen Ammo?

Hey All... a guy I was talking to earlier (seriously... it's not me) was telling me about how he was approached by someone that asked him if he wanted to buy some ammo..... it was a large quantity for a very low price - 500 plus or minus in a mid-sized handgun caliber for $20-ish. Makes me suspect foul play.

I don't want to put too much detail out there for just anyone to say "hey that's my ammo!", but enough detail that you can see that it's a ridiculous deal.

Is there any way to check into it?

Is this a joke? Maybe the guy just wanted to get rid of it or he is being nice. If your friend doesnt feel comfortable tell him to pay market price.

Who said he didn't buy it? I didn't say friend either.

Personally, I like to help others. If someone on here had a bunch of cr@p stolen and this is part of it I would like to get that taken care of if possible.... that is all.

Might be someone who sold the gun that used that caliber. I know I have passed on "DEALS" to people I know when I have found a caliber I don't use anymore in the back of the closet.

500ish is really not a large amount. If the person is offering multiple 500 rounds in various calibers I would be more suspicious.

Look at it this way... stolen ammo could be used for good... or bad... I would've bought it to keep it out of the hands of any number of gangbangers... but that's me. I would NOT however do the same for a firearm.

I would feel it would be my civic duty to buy it, if not to get it out of a criminals hands, but to hold it for safe keeping until the true owner could be identified

Well - if a person wanted to sell me a good-condition car for say, $500, who am I to say no?

But on ammo? Who knows. More info needed here. Did the seller look shady? Or did he look like a person who, as another poster said, might have sold the guns he had in that caliber and was just looking to get rid of it?

Buy the ammo, even if half that ammo were duds, it's well worth the $20 (think reloading components).

If a price is too low and seems too good to be true, there probably is a catch of some kind.

Except, if the ammo is .22lr @ 500 rounds, then that's about the right market price.

I'd buy it. I'd also make sure that the boxes had plenty of the seller's fingerprints on it. I'd also see if I could get photos of the seller or a license plate. Then I'd contact PD to see if the ammo matched anything stolen, and offer that I had info and prints of the seller for PD to follow up on. I'd risk $20 to get vermin off the streets if the ammo wasn't his to sell.

But it and resell it as reloading components only. Before he sells it to someone that would use it for something illegal or he sells it to a kid that hits it with a hammer. That way he can get his fix and everyone but him is safe.

I would have jumped on it. I don't automatically assume that people who need to sell things in a hurry are crooks. Especially in these hard times. Pawn shops are overrun from people selling just to make it another month.

If it was factory ammo in sealed boxes, maybe.

If it was .357 Magnum I'd jump on it and disassemble for components. Can't think of any other ammo I really need that bad...

Depending on circumstances I'd probably be having a discussion with the local constabulary...
