    Gun Magazines

Which gun magazines do you read?

Thus far the only one I can stand to read is American Handgunner. Every other magazine read as though they are written by failing high schoolers. I'm looking for quality writing and a variety of topics and features.
    Heavy Hitters Inc.
    Sig P226R 9mm
    Remington 1100 12ga
Ruger 10/22 w/ Hogue stock, Barska scope, Ruger target/heavy barrel

Seems like I never read the magazines I get, I even dropped my NRA subscription down to the level that doesn't have any of their magazines.

I don't think that observation about the writing style is limited to magazines either. Have you read FOX? I know a lot of the reports they are posting up are simply reproduced in full from AP or some other wire service, but even their own in house reports... good grief. And it's not just AP and FOX, CNN, Newsweek whoever... they're all that bad.

North County Times seems okay but I don't check them much because I don't generally worry about local flavor type articles.

I find two of the Wolfe publications, specifically 'Rifle' and 'Handloader', to be superior to most others. They are chock-full (what is a chock, anyway?) of juicy bits of reloading information and that's ideal for an armchair hunter and shooter like me. I can't make up my mind if I shoot to reload, or reload to shoot.

Now, what annoys me is the growing trend of TV magazines (such as the shows on versus and outdoor channel) to tout their favorite guns and trucks and what have you over and above the already-too-frequent commercials. It's ruining Friday mornings for me!

American Handgunner, and Small Arms Review. Those 2 for about 10 years. Recently I see more Black Rifle mags, AR15 etc. Got 2 on Saturday

I don't subscribe to any... but when I go grocery shopping I usually stop by the magazine rack and see if any of the mags have interesting articles - then I buy them.

              I subscribe to a few..

But, the one I trust is Gun Tests Magazine. No advertising.

The others I sign up with their initial offers and sometimes cancel and sometimes continue. I have Guns, American Handgunner and American Cop renewals on my desk (signed up at S.H.O.T. show: 3 for $35). As you say, their writing is better than the majority.

I pick up Guns and Weapons for Law Enforcement and its look-alike: Combat Firearms at the local supermarket. They are the Argosy and Saga of the 21st century.

I subscribe to Guns and Ammo, which usually has a decent article or two, and I like some of the columns. I also subscribe to Shotgun News, because I love reading the same advertisements every issue.

I get four main magazines monthly:
                        - American Rifleman
                        - American Hunter
                        - Shooting Illustrated
                        - Field & Stream

I go to the bookstore once a month and take a look at others, plus fly fishing and hiking magazines.

Handloader, american gunsmith and gun tests.
I have given up on the rest -
Like to look over the old '50s - '60s stash on occassion though. The first shooting times were really good.
