    Gun Vault

Was thinking about getting a GunVault 1000s for a nightstand safe.

But I read awhile back that a GunVault 1000s can be opened with a "mastercode" or some kind of glitch.

Was that ever fixed? Or should I just avoid it?

Could probably also be opened with a hammer or a big screwdriver. From what I gather, just about everything can be cracked. I have a Gun Vault to keep a gun handy, but out of sight and reach of children. I have a safe for everything else. If yours turns out to be like my GV, if it is opened with combo multiple times daily, the electronic mechanism will most likely fail in a year or so. I had to re-rig mine...I was PO'd at the quality of the GV. Gotta have something, though.

GunVault is to protect your young children from getting their hands on the arm. I am sure I could open mine with a screwdriver. If your kid is old enough to use a screwdriver then he/she needs to be taught firearms basics. It's more of a young child safety lock than anything else.

I remember reading about something about opening it without force entry. Just a "master code" or something like that.

          found it on google:

GunVaults are a brilliant design with a fatal flaw. If they are exposed to a static shock while plugged into an AC adapter they reset to the factory default combination. The first one I had not only reset, but opened itself and actually started smoking. I sent it back and they seemed to have fixed that issue. But three units in a row that I have had reset themselves if shocked and GunVault does not appear to be fixing this issue.
