Proper way to clean/maintain rifle magazines

I'm curious what type of oil you guys use to clean/store your rifle magazines, I have various steel magazines I'd like to clean up for storage, and I want to make sure they stay rust free and usable. someone suggested motor oil to me, but that seemed kinda messy. Anyways if people could post what products they use to clean and also to store their mags that'd be very helpful. Thanks

here is what i would do. get one of those food saver things that sucks the air out of the bag and a light coat of grease on the mags. stick em in the bag, suck out the air and seal it and you should be good. this is for LONG term storage though.
