Do any companies make an ar 15 lower in stainless steel. Ive only found aluminum lowers. Is there a reason for not using stainless steel in a lower

DPMS made them many many years ago, but no longer does.
You just don't accomplish anything in making them out of stainless. The forged aluminum that they use is plenty strong enough, and stainless would be needless added weight. Please read the Calguns Wiki
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

Found them (DPMS) here, don't know if they're in stock...
It says the 12 oz added weight is a "feature" which reduces recoil and assists steadying the gun for high-accuracy long shots. Price is $300. Might be of interest to a long distance competition marksman competing with the AR platform. Kind of a niche interest though. The one thing worse than defeat is surrender.Comment

If you like that brushed stainless/aluminum look, why not try an 80% lower? Then you can polish that sucker up and give it whatever look you want it to have. Hell, you could probably buff it to a point where you could use your AR as a signaling mirror for if you need to be rescued while backpacking.Comment

One cal gunner had a polished ar here and sold it. I thought it was pretty cool. If you are going stainless, IMHO, do a stainless upper, never have seen one, and stainless barrel. I did see a certain vendor had about 30 sets of red anodized upper and lowers sets awhile back. Those were cool.sigpic
