    Vacaville Area-Good FFL here

Not sure what forum this goes in so I figured this is a good starting point.

I recently went through a Vacaville FFL recommended by my buddy to do the transfer of my Saiga purchased from J&G in Arizona.

Afana's Knives, Guns & Ammo in Vacaville. Very small shop, as far as I know it's just the 2 owners and a daughter working there. To me that's good as I can develop a better relationship as a customer, other stores I deal with someone new every time I go. Their on hand inventory seems small but they've made it clear they can get whatever my heart desires. Transfer fee for my Saiga is $65... every other FFL in the area all the way to the bay or Sac is at least $100. I've been pleased enough with them that I've bought a buckmark from them as well as a gift for my wife.
I hope to make a knife purchase from them in the future as well.

The place is tucked away off Leisure Town Rd.

I'm very pleased with the service and it has become my local go-to FFL.

I mean, who needs to dive bomb when SHTF? That only happens in movies.

Any place other than Guns Fishing & other Stuff is a great place in Vacaville.

I will have to locate and check this place out.

It's right by Center Mass, Union is a U-shaped street with Center Mass on one leg and Afana's on the other.

          Agreed.

There hours are kinda hit and miss. Their website doesn't state hours, neither does their business card. I think a review on Yelp or somewhere states the hours but those are incorrect as I have tried going once according to those hours and they were closed.
I don't think the shop is their main job, I think it's more of a side project between the two owners. My buddy said despite that they are very helpful as they came late and opened the store just so he could start DROS on his SP2022 he had shipped in from RifleGear.

If you're a knife guy I think you'll dig the store as that seems to be a main focus, the gun inventory is lacking but like I said, they can order what they don't have and their transfer fee cannot be beat unless you got a close buddy with an FFL.

I have done 2 ppt's here and it took over an hour each time. Only 1 friendly staff member, others were very short in conversation and borderline rude. I dont go there anymore.

They are definately not into providing quality customer service.

Went to guns fishing and other stuff for a private transfer. After waiting in line a fair amount of time, got to the front of the line and told the fat bald guy that I wanted to do a PPT and he said I had to go to the end of the line because paying customers come first. What an idiot. I have $800 dollars in my pocket that I had just received from selling a handgun and I was considering buying a shotgun with part of that money. When he said that, I turned around and waled out. I will NEVER go there again and I tell EVERYONE that story. And while I was waiting I was checking out ammo prices while I had the gun box in my hand and a guy came over and told me to get away from the ammo since I had a gun with me. I sort of get that but he was totally rude about it. What is with these bozos? That's is just plain bad business. Don't go into that store with any expectations.

They have this idea that they are God's gift to Northern California gun owners. I'm friends with one guy who works the range there, he's very cool but again, he works the range. The service upstairs (and prices) definitely leaves something to be desired. Before I knew about Afana's I just drove up to Sac for my firearms needs.

                      Thread resurrection time!

Just talked to the guys over at Afana's. Nice guys. Seem like a great little shop. With $65 transfers, they will be getting my business.

Guns, Fishing and Stuff = Overpriced, Rude, and Misinformed

Worst store ever. They sell at MSRP, won't price match anything, and the upstairs gun sellers treat you like it's your privilege to be doing business with them.

Center Mass is pretty good. I've used their range on occasion, and done an out of state transfer. Pretty nice folks there and happy to help.

I make the long drive up to TDS in Rocklin or River City Gun Exchange in Sacramento. They're competitive on price and know their stuff. It's a drive, but I don't get treated like a second class citizen there.

You see, my mule don't like people laughing.
He gets the crazy idea you're laughing at him.
Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to,

Well, I have a mixed review for Afana's.

I dealt with the partner, Mike Afana. Because of some of the comments in this thread and others, I confirmed their weekend hours and that they would not charge sales tax on a FTF PPT. Mike was very personable (offering to stay open late or open early to accommodate my PPT) and, as a result, I had also followed up with him to see if his outlet did SSE, as I was interested in a non-roster handgun that would require SSE to be DROS'd. Unfortunately, they don't do SSE's.

Met with my seller (who happens to be active in 2A issues) and at the conclusion of the transaction, I was told that the cost for the FTF PPT would be $65. From the various threads on CGN, I knew that the cost for a FTF PPT was limited to $35 (for the first handgun). My seller intervened and cited the related penal code sections governing FTF PPT transactions and the related fees.

Mike ended up agreeing to charge me $35 for the FTF PPT but if you are seeking a similar service, I would encourage you to confirm the cost of a FTF PPT before scheduling something with your seller/buyer.
