Best FREE State to move to- Western US.

    Hey All,
Gonna turn my rant on here. I'm a Cali native- 40 years old, lived here most of my life (other than where the Military sent me). Been all over the world and have NEVER seen a more Beautiful place on God's earth than here. I Love my place of birth, BUT, its government is corrupt to the core, helmed by visionless, mindless, spineless buffoons. My hope has never been so literally Crushed as it has since Brown took office. Our Super Liberal Legislature now has a Super Liberal Governor to sign into law whatever they can come up with...
    -Ban on E-Verify
-No More 30 day impounds for unlicensed drivers (because it hurts Illegal Aliens)
    -Dream Act 1 & 2
-Liberal/Gay Judges to circumvent the will of the people
    -Ban on open carry
    -Mandatory registration of long-guns
-Legislature voting themselves free pass on concealed carry permits
-Passage of YET ANOTHER BU11***** budget
    -The State IS Broke
    I could go on forever...
As the noose tightens on our freedoms, the very thought of sending my tax money to these Frakkin Idiots nauseates me.
So it has come to this- stay and suck it up, or leave.
Quoting Corporal Hicks in "Aliens": "WE ARE LEAVING!!!"
    But where to Go?
    Some Pre-Req's:
    -Must be Free State
    -Far West as Possible
-Like mountains, trees, water (Love outdoor sports/ hiking/ camping)
-Not interested in the Desert, been there & done that.

So gimme your thoughts on where a good man can still go to be a Free American and not have to deal with the Liberal throngs.
Freedom consists not in doing what we like, but in having the right to do what we ought.

Actually I'm amending my answer....I think Oregon is the right answer...just not Portland.....shall issue CCW, no high cap bans, cash and carry gun sales to in state residents, no sales tax, and hell they even pump the gas for you..... How could I not say the state of my birth.....

If I had money, I'd move to williams AZ, or any other northern AZ city in the mountains. That said, I'm moving to southern Oregon. Despite some liberals in Portland, its is still a very free-minded state. Its absolutely beautiful, and if you stay east of the cascades, its quite a bit dryer. Land and houses are cheap.Bring your own job though.

ARIZONA!!! preferably the suburbs of Phoenix like Chandler, Gilbert, Queen Creek. If you got the bucks, Scottsdale. I'm visiting family in Chandler right now and I just love this area. I'm free for another week then I must return to the liberal state of Kalifornia. Booooo

I'd vote for Prescott Valley AZ, but I'm a little biased.

                    Oregon.

Portland is a great city, and if you get a CCW (shall issue, took me 30 minutes with no appointment and I was out the door with my still warm CCW card) then you don't need to worry about Portland's silly gun rule.

I am just finishing my education for my 3rd Career; I decided to be a teacher (History). I will be done in about 6 weeks, and I want to get the H$!! Out of California. I am originally from Denver Area, and Colorado is definitely a possibility.

But I have been thinking of Utah, Oregon, Texas, and Arizona. Even considered the Tennessee and Missouri area, as I have family there. I really just cannot decide. But that isn’t even the biggest hold up. My wife is also a teacher and has been for almost 20 years, so the problem is retirement hers is all tied up here in California. I am not sure what will happen if we leave before she is completely vested. Guess that is just another area to research. As soon as I get my ducks in a row, I will be leaving! Unless something really changes with the way this state operates! Not just gun laws, but everything……. A fellow can only take so much.

"Legislature voting themselves free pass on concealed carry permits"

This was amended out, and would have been a good thing for us had it been left in.

It was taken out because of opposition by the Brady campaign. Think about that for a moment.

Oregon's terrain is very similar to California. You have the central valley area past Roseburg, the mountains on both sides, desert on the east, beautiful coastal area on the west. They also have a wonderful wine area in the Willemette valley. Portland has a lot of cultural areas and events. Health care is very good, cost of living is lower on utilities, food, and gas. House prices are medium depending on area, but property tax is a little on the higher side along with state tax. But you make up for it with no sales tax!

Cash and carry guns, high cap mags, CCW friendly, and lots of BLM land!

Now if your retired its all great, jobs are a little on the low side at the moment unless your in health care. But still all my relatives are employed and they pretty much live all over the state.

It's my choice for when I get out of this state, probably going to go to Southern Oregon or the town of McMinnville which is like perfectly centered between the coast/Portland/capital. Just more rain up there.

I've already decided on southern Oregon, for a lot of the same reasons the OP is looking for: mountains, hiking, white water, not too far from the ocean, friendlier gun laws, etc. Weather there is a lot like California (not as wet as further north), plus there's a growing wine industry in the area. For retirement, we also looked for places that had good health care, and had an airport nearby. The Medford area had all of that, so we took advantage of today's low home prices and low interest rates to buy our retirement home near there.
