Good deal lost in the mail.

Dammit. I bought a Russian SKS from a guy in Alaska over a month ago. Supposedly he shipped it and I have not gotten it yet. It only took him 4 days to get my money, so it shouldn't take over 2 weeks to get my rifle. This sucks. I actually got a descent deal on it too. I hope it shows up.

I'm hoping if it is lost that at least he insured it. If not I'll be out a rifle and a scope for another gun. He hasn't supplied me with any tracking #'s so he probably sent it usps.

Even USPS you should be able to get a tracking number.

true, but atleast that way he would know that it was the fault of USPS. Also, when he calls and lets them know that they have a rifle floating around in their system somewhere, a tracking number helps find it

That's why they call it "delivery confirmation" and not a tracking #. Don't know why they haven't implemented tracking #s.

I sent the guy an Email last night and he said he shipped it to my FFL,but he didn't tell me when. The FFL would have been me (c&r) so I would have seen it . I'm at least hoping that he is slow. I got his phone # for the shop up there. I'll give him a a little later and see what he says.

And yes that # usps uses is bunk. It does nothing for me to see where it is. But at least if I had it I could actually see if he did ship it.

I don't think that you can ship weapons via USPS, it has to go through UPS or FedEX. I had to ship something back to Colt and that's what I was told. I'd contact the person and ask for the method of shipment and the tracking number.

I had a perfect custom FAL reappear after 2 months with some damage to the handguards but was repairable. I was fing pissed that the ffl recieved it in a box that was wasted w/o any kind of documentation of the damage. It will turn up.

NOT TRUE, just dont mark the box as containing a firearm i.e. JOES GUNS INC. instead J.G.Inc. This is the policy of usps to prevent theft. Shipping firearms is perfectly acceptable via USPS however I will never use them again for it because of the T# or lack of.

That may be "Colt's" policy not the law. It's fine with .gov for long guns.

(B7) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm through the U.S. Postal Service?

A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. The Postal Service recommends that long guns be sent by registered mail and that no marking of any kind which would indicate the nature of the contents be placed on the outside of any parcel containing firearms. Handguns are not mailable. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun.

                        [18 U.S.C. 1715, 922(a)(3), 922(a)(5) and 922 (a)(2)(A)]

If he sent it parcel rate, it could take a while.

OK, then Colt was correct in my case since it was a 1911 .45, as stated, hand guns can not be shipped via USPS.
