    M1A Standard vs Loaded?

I realize opinions are like belly buttons... Like most, I do like an accurate a rifle as possible. For non competition shooting, is it worth the extra cash to get the Loaded M1A? I understand the diff to be about $300. I have a concern about the barrel assembly that comes with the Loaded as not being able to cycle surplus ammo, or just being finicky due to tighter tolerances etc.. I have this problem with my match AR.
Anyone have any experience with the standard, loaded, NM.??
    thx

This is what you get for that extra $300. Match rear sight and front sight, match trigger, and the medium barrel.
I don't really care about the sight, I mounted a scope. I am not sure what is the different between std trigger and match trigger. The barrel is the only thing that worth a **** to me.
The rifle work great, I use reload, so not sure about the problem with the surplus.

I have a Loaded and it ate up South African surplus just fine. Haven't tried any US Milsurp. It's pleanty accurate for me w/o the glass bedding. I've handled better two stage triggers but I've got no complaints against the stock trigger. I've fired a NM and at my shooting skill level I couldn't justify the price difference. Never fired a Standard.

I have the loaded model, and I love it. I haven't shot a standard next to my loaded to compare them, but i'll tell you: whatever you put those sights on, you hit.

Maybe take a look at an AR10 based rifle, at least with that platform you can get a free floated front end. Any wood stocked gun is going to give you variatios based on the weather and a lot of other things.

                    M1a vs M1

Thx, I have my AR.... I have never shot an M1a and I should have asked this in my first thread.....

I have a CMP M1 that I love... is shooting the M1a that much different than the M1? Other than the M1a having the mag of course? Or will I just be getting a different version of the same thing??

The M1 A is what the Garand should have been-- A magazine fed .30 caliber rifle. I waaaayy prefer my M1A's over my Garand
BTW my loaded model is a laser--It is well worth the extra $$ to get loaded.

OP, Honestly it depends on what you want to shoot at. My standard M1A has worked fine with all the ammo i have fed it. But, if you want to shoot matches with it, it would be worth the extra to have a Loaded or a NM.

The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.

Some idiots are too busy knowing it all to ever learn anything

Loaded Standard should handle milsurp ammo no problem. I've spent a good bit of time behind the trigger of one with the stainless barrel, it ate South African, British and US surplus no problem.

Ya, I'm afraid it's going to come down to a new M1a for me, or new furniture for the Mrs.....My favorite hiding spot is getting kind of full...

Thanks to your comments, it looks like I've settled on the loaded with ss (unless ss adds way to much $$) I dont enter competitions, but as my calguns name implies, I like to shoot tight groups.

Come on Turners! Let's have a sale on Springfields!!!

                              Thx again guys.
