    Handbag legality

so i own this glock range bag. while i drive to the range i keep a couple boxes of ammo, glock pistol, and safety equipment. could there be a problem becuase the gun and ammo is in the same bag? also the pistol is locked by the pistol steel cord.

As long as the pistol is unloaded and in a locked container you can have ammo, mags, and even ammo in mags in the same bag. Just no loaded mags in the gun.
Cut and paste from the CHP FAQ page:

I will be traveling to California and want to carry my weapon. I currently have a concealed weapon permit. How can I legally transport my weapon while driving through the state?
California law does not recognize concealed weapon permits from other states; therefore, they would not be held valid. If you wish to transport a handgun during your California visit, it should be carried unloaded in a locked container. In the absence of a suitable container, you may secure the unloaded handgun in the locked trunk of a passenger car. Ammunition may be kept in the same container or trunk, but the handgun must remain unloaded with no rounds in the cylinder and no loaded magazines in the magazine well.

If you have additional questions, contact the California Department of Justice at 916-227-3703.
Violence is seldom the answer, but when it is the answer it is the only answer

No problem with ammo and gun in same container. just no loaded mags in the gun, no rounds in a revolver cylinder etc.. Loaded mags can be in the same case as the gun.

But by the laws definition, and it is very clear, the pistol must be in a fully enclosed locked container, the range bag will suffice as long as the compartment that the gun is in is locked shut.

A cable lock or trigger lock on the gun does not meet the requirements of the law.

When you use the words "pistol steel cord," are you referring to the action lock sold with the firearm per California law, or something else entirely? If the former, that does not constitute "in a locked container," and would be an unlawful means of transporting your handgun. You would need to acquire a lockable container within which to store your pistol, which could be transported in the bag you've depicted without issue.

Edit: That'll teach me to READ.. I didn't notice that brianm767 had already covered this in his post. I saw the top portion, I didn't notice the text below the quoted material.

Us manly-men prefer not to use the term "handbag" when describing our range bags
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means."
"What we get away with isn't usually the same as what's good for us"
"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"

"While Ruger DA revolvers may be built like a tank, they have the aesthetics of one also,
although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"

Hey this raises a Great Question, IF a purse is locked (small keylock or numerical lock) and the pistol & mag are in the purse is it concealed or legal? Seems like a lot of guys could start carrying purses, or briefcases ??? What say you folks??

It is concealed - you can't see it.

Inside a locked container is a legal way to transport an unloaded concealable weapon, per PC 12026.1/25610 and .2; .1 is for in vehicles, and has no destination restrictions; .2 is for NOT in a vehicle and has restrictions.

12026.2 has been split up into 25505 thru 25595

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
