Has anyone tried this at home? I would, but the problem is I do not have a blast cabinet to get the gun parts to bare metal. If any of you does parkerizing and have been successful and willing to provide this service, please let me know.

Check the fal files for 'bonecrusher' [Mike Crosby]. He does beautiful work and the price is right. Usually takes 2 weeks.Originally posted by KrazyKevyHas anyone tried this at home? You definitely need to sandblast before parking.

I'm takign the gunsmithing course at Lassen College right now, and in two weeks I start Parkerizing I believe. I'll let ya know. Next week it's Color Case Hardening."There are over 550,000,000 firearms in worldwide circulation, that's one firearm for every 12 people. Ive found plenty of places online where they sell the chemicals, instructions, and pre-mixed solutions. Like I said, I would do it myself, BUT I do NOT have a blast cabinet to blast the parts to bare metal.Originally posted by Technical TedSomewhere online there are a couple of instructionals for DIY parkerizing. Only thing besides the sandblasting/degreasing that can be of concern are the handling, storage and disposal of the chemicals involved.
There's even one that tells you how to use a propane grill instead of your kitchen oven.
Thanks for the info guys. I'll look into the Gun Kote and DuraCoat. That looks easy enough.Last edited by KrazyKevy; 10-27-2005, 2:00 AM.Comment

A big +1 on Norrell's.
You'll need a $30 airbrush, and I would recommend a good Heat Gun to warm the parts before you spray them, but the results are very, very good. As a test I refinished one of my Vulcans, the factory finish was "lacking". Using the Flat Black the lower now matches my LMT upper perfectly and it's a consistent, even finish.
If you follow the directions and use a heat gun to keep the part you are finishing heated, I don't think you can mess it up.Disenfranchised NRA Benefactor Life Member.
