Magazine Price

I am looking at putting together a detachable magazine bolt gun in the near future, and I was just wondering; why in the world are 5 round magazines running almost 100 bucks for most 700 based platforms!!?? Is there something I'm missing here?

Are you looking at OEM mags? My Savage model 10 mags cost $40 from the factory. Finding higher cap mags is the problem for me. I do have one 9rd conversion that cost $90 after a long wait. Most "COOL" guys are changing the bottom metal and using aftermarket high-caps on the Rem 700.

Volume. How many remington 700s are out there? How many of those are running aftermarket DBM? My guess is not a whole lot compared to ARs or popular pistols. Now of all those remington 700s with DBM how many mags do you think the owner is going to buy 1 or 2, maybe 3. There are tons of ARs out there and guys buy tons of mags for them so the makers can cash in on volume, but they probably don't sell a lot of AICS mags so they make up for it by jacking up the price.

Plus if you just spent 3 grand customizing your rifle and another 2 grand on a scope whats a few hundred for a couple of mags?
