Question on Nitrocarburizing my 1911

I was going to have my Kimber duracoated at first, but now leaning towards Nitrocarburizing. I'm either going to send it to Coal Creek for Isonite QPQ or go to Orange and get Melonite QPQ.

I'm doing the slide and frame for sure, and am tempted to have the barrel done. Does anyone here know if nitrocarburizing a barrel would affect accuracy noticeably?

Or should I leave the barrel alone?

I had my NRM Colt done by Burlington a few years ago. I left the barrel and small parts alone. I had them do all the external stuff, slide, frame, safety, slidestop, bbl bushing, grip safety and mag release. I just wasn't too thrilled thinking about the hammer, sear, pins, bbl, etc being heated up that hot.

I'm 100% satisfied with the outcome and would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a black, virtually indestructible gun. Otherwise, hard chrome for those that don't mind silver.

Don't remember. It may have been around $200. I brought the gun to them in pieces so they didn't have to do any work other then the Meloniting.

Very nice. I've got a CrMo AR barrel coming in a few weeks that I intend to nitrocarburize, but I hadn't selected a vendor yet. Finding a reliable vendor in Orange County is particularly nice.
