So, we're at the local Walmart buying various items for the house and I hit the ammo section to grab a few boxes. I noticed a few other people standing around talking to a worker. I overheard the worker telling a lady in her early 20's that there was no one working who was "certified" to sell ammo.

Well, I didn't want to wait around all night, but I did want some ammo. I asked the worker if she could call over a manager, which she said she would. 10+ minutes later a manager strolls by unaware that we asked to see him. I explained that there was now 6 of us wanting to buy ammo, but no one to sell it to us. The manager told me that only "certified" persons can sell ammo. So, I had to ask... "Certified by who? The store?". "No, by the state", the manager was quick to add. I told him there was no such certification, so he said it was a federal law, which I told him that wasn't true either.

I then proceeded to point to the hundreds of boxes of 12ga rounds that are on the shelf for anyone to grab. I told him that was ammo, and it wasn't locked up. The manager told me that it wasn't ammo, that it was targets. Ok, so now I'm ready to blow my lid... I grab one of the boxes, open it up and pull out shotgun shells. I hand them to the manager and ask him what kind of targets those were. Well, to say the least he was a little baffled. He ended up searching for the ONE employee in the whole store who was "certified" to sell us ammo. As I was being rung up, I told the manager that perhaps he should know how or be certified in the jobs he manages. After all, that would only make sense. I got a dirty look, took my ammo, and headed out.

So, here is my Walmart ammo rant. Hopefully when it happens again it will be a long time from now.
    You're right though.

They live for the opportunity to be called to duty to protect the innocent. The sheepdog has fangs and the propensity for violence but hopes that he will not have to resort to it. However, he lives for that day when he will be able to use his warrior skills and mindset to keep the wolf from harming the sheep."

Was at the city of industry walmart this weekend. I wanted to buy some ammo, but there was nobody around. I tracked down an employee and he said he would page somebody. 10 minutes later, still nobody showed up. I found the same employee and asked him again to find someone. Finally somebody shows up. Apparently he doesn't know how to use the cash register. He brings my ammo to the electronics dept. to be rung up. I was only going to buy 1 box, but thought, if I have to put up with this bs every time, i better buy another box so that I don't have to come back again.

Never really had an issue at the Simi Valley store. A few times i had to track down someone to open the case but I have even had the guys in electronics leave their area to come help me out. The keys are sitting 5 feet from the ammo case so thats never an issue. Me knowing where the keys are kinda defeats the purpose of the locked case but its walmart.

That's been my general experience as well. I could usually get someone from another department to open the case for me. This time however, it was a bit different for some reason.

Wally world ammo prices are currently fail-tastic (they keep rising, esp .45 ACP), but I would still go there if I wanted a few boxes of TulAmmo and not have to buy those in bulk online, or if I wanted some 12 ga shotshells.

No matter which W-mart I go to, 60-75% of the time the sporting goods counter is empty, and I often have to wait there for 5 mins or so. But luckily, I never had such a FUD-filled encounter that locosway had. Chino Walmart, Orange Walmart, Brea Walmart have all been decent to me.

Walmart and I are pretty much divorced. They're part of the Chinese problem, so screw 'em.

I get great deals at usaammo, sgammo, surplusammo, as well as other websites, saving me severe Chinese salve labour goods and idiot exposure overload at Walmart

I think it's funny when people mention the China issue. Outside of food products, I don't mind buying from them. The reason being is simple economics. If you buy their products, they now have American dollars, and have to spend that American dollar here in America, or sell it to someone else. So the money never "leaves" as some of the MSM and politicians want you to believe.

They must work on the same day, and have the same days off. The section is a ghost town when I'm there. No other reason to go to Wallyworld for me, other than ammo.. unless I'm hitting up In-N-Out across the parking lot.

Well, I can't buy a decent American car that doesn't handle like a bowl of soup, Levis are made everywhere but here, goddamn Apple products are built in Taiwan, etc. Globalism has crushed our manufacturing. I have to draw the line somewhere, and Walmart is it.

Every WalMart I have been to has had 12 or 20 gauge out and free to grab.

I think you might be caricaturing a bit here. FYI, Apple products are mostly made in China, and there are plenty of very good American cars now. Some are even built (or at least assembled) in the US.

Globalism is just the consequence of the free market logic in a globally-connected world.

In the high desert, the victorville store locks up ammo....but 10 minutes away in apple valley none of it is locked up...and they always have plenty there.

The walmart in huntington beach is pretty good. The only thing that sucks is that the ammo disappears pretty quickly there. Every other walmart I've been to hasn't been a good experience when it comes to buying ammo

To me, having to find the one certified employee that carries the ammo key, only to save a dollar or two per box, is not worth going on safari to a Wal-Mart.
