    Prozac

    Good afternoon,

My cousin is wondering if being prescribed Prozac for sleep issues would D/Q him from purchasing a firearm. Has anyone failed a background check for being prescribed the stuff? He's purchased rifles before and has an otherwise clean record.

    Thanks in advance.

No he should have no problem with that.
I thought Prozac was for depression not sleep disorders.

Nice racks are much better. You can grab both sides of the rack to help stabilize while mounting.

How would they know? Is your scrip from a doctor?

People take all kinds of gnarly drugs they get from a doctor. Think about people on pain meds, or methadone... As long as you have a perscription, you're good.

Okay I was confused about controlled substances, so I looked it up on the 4473. You can use controlled substances, just not "unlawfuly."

Personally I hated Prozac. It made me stupid. I'm normally very social, on Prozac all I could do during a conversation was look at people with a blank expression. My mind was just empty. Had a hard time recalling names of people I'm close with, couldn't remember where I left things, sometimes for breif moments I wasn't exactly sure how I got where I was at the moment.

Cool, thanks for the info. I told him to send a letter to the CA DoJ anyway.

Which letter? The PFEC? If his record is clean, why bother? Or are you writing to ask them about Prozac?

I'll give you my personal advice, dont give the government (including the police) any more info than you have to.

Asking the DOJ, "hey I am clean, but I have mental problems, can I still buy a gun" is not a good idea, no matter how you word it... You'd be better off asking a reputable gun lawyer. At least they know the law, unlike the CALDOJ.

At least call and ask if you must (of course you may get a different answer every time), never leave a paper trail. They (the DOJ) will never give us one, they know better than commit themselves on paper.

No, Ambien works much better and I need it much less frequently.

They prescribe Prozac and other anti-depressants for a multitude of things such as, sleep problems, chronic pain, depression, obesity, sexual disorders, migraines, tourettes, and etc.

I wouldn't take Prozac again it won't help with sleep as much as it will turn him into a zombie. I'd ask for ambien or Xanax for sleep a sleep aid. I was prescribed what I mentioned plus a few others and I'm happy to say I don't take any of them....very happy

I believe sleep disorders have been known to cause depression, particularly in long term insomniacs
