    Residential Indoor Range Build?

Hey guys, new to the forum, and I have a question for ya. My wife and I are looking into purchasing some land in either Solano or Sacramento county. We're trying to get 5-10 acres, and I was thinking about building an indoor range on the land. Are there any laws preventing me from building my own range? Do I need some kind of permit or license? Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Not 100% but fairly sure there are gonna be some pretty big hoops to jump through. Alot of environmental junk (lead particulates, forced air vent.) I'm sure one of the guys on the board that work at an indoor range will be able to answer ya here shortly.
A gun, like any other source of power, is a force for either good or evil, being neither in itself, but dependent upon those who possess it.

All I could think of is a building permit and zoning restrictions, etc. I'm sure there are more restrictions that you'd have to work with, as Duggan has suggested. I've wondered about this same issue myself. Subscribed.

NSSF has awarded more than $12 million in grant monies that work to underscore and support our industry’s recruitment, reactivation and retention efforts.

ask these guys. maybe they can help. i always wanted to do the same . wish i had some land and some cash.

That's a good question but I wonder, how big of a range?
My uncle had built a small pistol range in the basement of his home in New England and didn't have any problems.
I thought about building one in my garage (10 yards) but I'm concerned about my neighbors hearing the noise.
If you are buying a spread (5-10 acres) who's going to know?

I'm assuming that this is a private range for just you and your wife.

            So basic thoughts:
Low power pistol ranges have been successfully built in basements or attics.
Ventilation is a must for indoor.
Most counties have distance requirements from buildings, sometimes the property owner can waive the minimum distance.
150 yards ain't that bad. make sure to read all of 9.40 http://qcode.us/codes/sacramentocounty/

I'd be most concerned with finding an area where it is socially acceptable. You may be fine and legal, but your neighbors could cause problems.

Check into Zoning, Building Permits and the cost of the EPA study. I know several folks who have property and outdoor ranges, but indoor ones are a lot more complicated and much more costly
