Range at home?

How much land would one need to make a nice little shooting range on their property? Say, no more than 100 yards needed to shoot. Anyone know what the rules are about this with the state/county/local?

Too many variables to say for sure. Someone might be able to make a legal and safe 100 yard range on 1/4 acre but, someone else might not be able to legally do so on 1000 acres.

I don't know about the land. But, I am just glad that I have a range built in at my office building.

Always thought that "containers" would make a perfect short range. Dig trench deep enough to place container, add access door, and after sound-proofing and water-sealing container, bury. Short range 25-40ft containers underground and no one would know what's up.

Someone hasn't read why it is a bad idea to bury a CONEX

I had one for over 20 years but I was out in the county. Check with your sheriff on the no shooting line. The other way is to go under ground just use large pipe (12" or bigger) very safe no one can here you shoot.

10 acres should be enough, though I have always thought you could do it on a smaller property if you got some sections of 8 or 10 foot diameter pipe and buried them to form a shorter range(probably would not work for rifles, but should be good for pistols).

I can't imagine trying to squeeze into and shoot 100yds through a 12" pipe would be much fun.

I shoot on about 20 acres. Its working Orchards all round so you need to be a conscientious shooter, like don't go blazing off during harvest, have a nice backstop, and don't be a moron and loft. People hunt all the time in the orchards so no one even blinks at gunfire.

You need to know your County Laws etc. It is nice to be able to shoot in my county.

Might want to consider lead free ammo if you ever plan on selling your house. Legally you would have to disclose that a range was on the property.
