Looking to get some low-cost good quality ear muffs. I was looking at Howard Leight's L0F Earmuff and was wondering how good is a NRR of 23 for indoor shooting of a .45ACP 1911? Also if I choose to get a rifle in .223/5.56 is the NRR or 23 good for outdoor shooting since all the rifle ranges are outdoors here in socal or should I go higher? Let me know.

Go higher, at least 29.
Or go to the gunshow & get the custom plugs made, about $45.Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...
I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.
Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

The higher, the better. I accept nothing under 29-30.Comment

I double up... foam plugs and amplified HL muffs.
Want to get some custom plugs made up, but I avoid gun shows.- Rich

I have those, I believe. I bought it so it wouldn't interfere with my rifle shooting as much. I'd double up with earplugs underneath if your shooting indoors. I keep forgetting to do that so I don't think it's too bad but definitely recommend doubling up with those or get something with higher dB reduction.R.I.P. I'd recommend ALWAYS doubling up either indoors or anything above a pistol outdoors.
I've had great luck with Surefire EarPros. Measure for size.

I double up simply because I'm already at 100% loss in my right ear (not noise related) and at frequencies above about 3k, I'm down about 50% in my left ear.
I've shot the HL amplified muff only a dozen or so times and they've been fine even for the 1911, though when the guy in the next lane opened up with something big (revolver, likely 44 mag), it was quite loud.
Similarly, my AR22 needs practically nothing. My featured build is fine with the muffs.
The featureless with the PWS "Noisemaker"?
Yikes.
Wife was firing it and I was 5 feet away and glad I had doubled up!- Rich

I kept getting that tinnitus ring multiple times in my right ear a week or so ago, had me kind of nervous so I NEED to double up next time. I think it was because my ear was infected. Haha I bought these when I only had my .22 AR so they work very well with those, no problem. It's the centerfire stuff being shot around me that kind of hurts. I also had a guy shoot a big revolver round in the lane next to me, that one hurt.
Agreed.
