Gun flag at the range

Went to the range Sunday. Shot AR15 amongst other weapons. Ar barrel was hot. Cease fire, flags in the chamber. As luck would have it, this was our last volley. The next day my son was cleaning his AR and met with resistance. Went from front of barrel and was able to knock out a piece of the Flag that was lodged in the receiver end of the barrel. It had melted, when he went to pull the flag out to put it away, that piece stayed in.
I am sure stranger things have happened, but this could have been dangerous.
One more thing to check for safety before and after a range trip.

I chop my chamber flags down...cut it down a bit so that it's only long enough to stick into the chamber an inch or so. I guess it could hlep melting, as I've never had one melt on me, but it also keeps the flag tip from pushing crap from the chamber into the bore. So say the older match shooters...makes sense so I do it.

yes, but at THAT range they also YELL at customers during the cease-fire.

My local range uses orange weed wacker string. They cut them down to 6-8", cheap and easy chamber flag. Probably less likely to melt.

But they do appreciate the flags. They have told me so.

As to the yelling, go early and they are generally in a better mood.

My range requires the yellow chamber flags that have "CMP" on them, although I am sure they would not quibble over some other design, or color. They sell them for a dollar and I have gotten into the habit of always having one in any firearm I take out of the safe to transport somewhere.

At Laguna Seca, they require them, pass them out when you go to shoot. As far as yelling, if you are doing something like, messing with your gun or withing the line near your weapon during cease fire, they announce over the loud speaker to stand behind the red line. I noticed that if it is me, it sounds like yelling, if it is someone else, it isn't loud enough, lol.
