Turners need a course in salemanship

Yesterday I was heading into the LA area from Palm Springs, and had never been to a Turners store. I had seen their ad and I was interested in 2 rifles, a Howa 308 Tactical, and a Hi-Point carbine in 40sw. So cash in hand I first stoped by the San Bernandino store, looked around a little, went to the gun counter and told the salesman what I was interested in, he somewhat answered my questions but wasn't making any moves towards the guns. I asked if I could see what kind of mag release the Hi-Point had, he took the gun out and pointed to the bullet release, it has the type you push with a small tool or bullet and put it back on the shelf, and kind of stepped back so I guess the coversation is over. Next stop West Covina store, went to the counter the salesman asked if he could help, I asked him about the Hi-Point, he told me he didn't know much about it, the gun hadn't been out long enough to judge it, I know my sons had one for 2 or 3 years, he then started talking about home defence ammo? Well again no sale, oh by the way both store's had the guns I was interested in.

I'm not a salesman but i've learned over the years it doesn't matter what your selling guns, cars or guitars the number one thing is to get the product into their hands, make it theirs. How many would buy a car if you had to stand behind a rope 6 feet away, not getting to sit in or test drive it. Now i'm not trying to pick on Turners because i've had this happen at alot of other places, and I thought Turner's had a good supply and prices maybe not the cheapest but not bad, the sales people were not rude just not helpfull enough to make a sale. If I would have really needed these guns I would have been more persistent in the matter, but this was an impulse buy, seen their ad, had the cash, and thought I don't have these guns might be cool to ad to stock.

I hear how bad Turner's customer service is at other places but the Turners in San Marcos is good to go.

Type Turners into the search field and read to your hearts delight. A Turners thread seems to pop up at least once a week

you might want to post this in Turner's subforum where they are more likely to see this.

              You're preaching to the choir.

With Turner's, or any gun or retail store for that matter, you get your share of idiots, uninformed, ego-maniacs, smart, or just cool people to deal with. It's just the luck of the draw.

I have my 2-3 turners guys I deal with. If it weren't for them I would have wrote them off already. You kind of have to go in and browse and BS with the counter guys till you find one that is cool and customer oriented. Then when you are ready to buy you ask by name.

The second guy at least admitted he did not know much about it instead of BSing you. But you are correct he should have handed it to you.

Sometime they give me an impression there sevice is dependant on how big your wallet is!Bring out a big wad of cash and they'll treat you like a king otherwise you wait like all the others. For business this is sad but very true. They sure have changed since it got sold

Turners is really hit or miss, I have been to three of them and had vastly different experiences.

Signal hill, great, it has become one of my favorite gun stores, and it has gotten to the point they greet me by name when I come in.

Fountain Valley and Torrance: Sucked, FV I was waiting for an hour for someone to do a PPT when there were literally NO other customers in the store(I guess they had a really important game of Minesweeper going). Torrance, nobody knew what they were doing(might just be new store syndrome, but still).

So I tend to stick to the one in SH, luckily it's only 2 miles from my house.

I've only been to the one in Reseda. Once. Never going back. Rudest bunch I've ever come across. Couldn't stop their private conversations long enough to help the 2 of us that were there.

I hear that. Took me an hour to PICK UP a gun with 1 other customer in the store and 4 behind the counter.

... well two were eating sandwiches, one was playing with himself and the other was actually working. So 1 behind the counter technically.

I find it funny I they don't hire new people with all the complaints. I know quite a few people that are far more knowledgeable and polite that have applied and it blows my mind that they dont get the job.

If Turners is reading, so glad I just picked up an 870 from Big 5 today, it pitiful they have better service than you and I say this as someone who has worked at Big 5.

I've always had good service at the FV store. One of the managers there, Jim, really goes above and beyond what I expect. I have not had the same experience at other stores though.

That seems to be the issue at just about any gun store. If you are a repeat customer, AND the guy behind the counter recognizes you, they will attend to you promptly. But if it's your first visit, it seems you really need to announce yourself to get any attention.

So far I haven't come across any bad service at the Chino Hills store knock on wood, but if I did it's bye, bye!
