    PPT procedures

I am thinking of buying used gun via PPT at a local gun shop. Never done this before. Is there any way for the shop to hold the fee of gun until the DROS is done rather than just giving the whole amount to the seller? An escrow if you will. Or what do most people do?

What would happen if DROS can't be done. For example the gun was reported stolen? Not that it is, but something similar that would not allow the sale to happen and then having to track down the seller for money back and then return the gun to them.

    Thanks.

Never heard of. If the gun store holds the gun in the way you mentioned, then wouldn't it fall in to consignment category? My logic is that if the seller is a kind of person who knowingly possesses and sells a stolen gun, then he would not sell it through regular channel, ether.

Usual flow is to meet with the seller at the gun store, inspect the gun at the store counter, pay cash to the seller, and run DROS. Dealer keeps the gun along with seller's information so you should not worry too much, IMO.

    Good luck.

      Thanks for the info.

What are some things to at (or look out for) on the gun when buying used?

It would depend on the type of gun. Revolvers you would want to look at lockup, timing, end shake, flame cut, wear on: finish, cylinder, forcing cone, barrel, muzzle crown, etc. Semi autos have different criteria. Same goes for rifles.

I not saying its stolen...just the only example I can come up with. I just wanted to protect myself in case the DROS came back and said its a no go and don't want to be out over $500 then having to track down the seller.

As to what to look for in a used gun, its a semi-auto (Sig P226).

          Thanks.

Here's a good article by Chuck Hawks that covers it all. There is a section specifically for semi autos. http://www.chuckhawks.com/used_handgun.htm
