Savage is always my first choice when looking at a rifle. But, when looking for my 300wsm, I picked up a Tikka and I think i had a revelation. Savage will still be my choice, unless I have to carry it more than 1 mile, then it will be Tikka. Those things are so light, it seems like a pleasure to carry and they also have a 1 inch guarantee at 100.

I have a savage 12VLP in 223 and it is an absolute laser beam with quality ammo. But, its heavy as hell....

Howa is a good rifle, but seem to be hit or miss. Plus, their resale value is poor.

I have all three. For varmit I would get another Savage with the accra-trigger. For hunting big game I will get another Tikka T3 Lite to go with the other 2 I have.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Tikka!!! Savage is junk from my experience, very sticky bolts/actions. Tikka has the smoothest action and trigger you will find out of the box and it SMOKES sub moa.

Out of those, I'd say Tikka, for sure. Remington 700 otherwise.

You just made it apparent that you have no experience with savage.

what model do you "have experience with"? Anything based off the 110 action (like the model 12, 10, 16, etc) is slicker than snot.

I've got a 20 year old savage 110 in .30-06 that is perfect. Sure the bolt is a little loose while working the action, but lockup is TIGHT. It's accurate, solid, and was cheap when my dad bought it for me (12 years old, first deer rifle) but it's a great rifle. It's the first I grab for hunting duty.

I had a savage .22 I beat the crap out of and abused with no issues and it was accurate, I wish I never sold it. I have a Howa in .223 that I love. Dime to Quarter size 100 yard groups all day long. Suprisingly smooth bolt action.

                  Why not a Remington 700?

Without specific models, it's hard to choose.
