    AK Pistol Questions

Okay guys, I am a bit confused about the AK Pistol idea.

I am under the impression that one must build the pistol themselves from the ground up completely. Why is this?

If you have an 80% receiver, and you bend it and make it a 100% receiver - then mark your own serial number and caliber on it wouldn't that make it a firearm? Why couldn't you send your firearm to get work done to it? (Like sending it to Vector arms and having them finish the AK for you)

Could someone make this clear for me?

    Thanks,
    Tony

As long as the receiver is marked as a pistol before you bend it you should be able to do that. HOWEVER i highly doubt any actual builders would be willing to build an AK pistol for us in california. You could buy a pre-built pistol kit and install it on the pistol receiver, or you can try contacting the builders to see if they will do one for us, it should be legal, but you have to keep in mind you cant really have it go through an FFL in CA so if thats part of shipping it there or back i dont know if thats doable.

Guns that are being returned to the owner don't have to go through an 01 FFL,

Technically its legal, once its stamped and bent, its a firearm receiver and can be treated like any other.

but like sal said, it'd be hard to find a builder who was willing to do it for us in CA

Besides its more fun to roll your own
