    Sacramento Ranges?

A friend and I are traveling to Sac at the end of Sept and will have some free time in the early evenings... were looking for a some range recommendations to shoot at. i dont think we'll be bringing our guns as this is a business trip and all i need for is something to go wrong and shtf. plus i dont want to have to deal with TSA and going thru security. it'll be easier to rent at the range.

any suggestions? we'll be staying in the 95815 area tues evening through thurs evening.

    TIA!

I think the only thing that is relatively close is the Gun Room in Elk Grove. It's about 20 miles away (south of Sacramento on Highway 99), but I can't think of anywhere closer that rents guns. They take a lot of (well-deserved) grief for their retail policies, but they're fine if you want to pop in, rent, and shoot.

Keep in mind that (I believe) they have the standard anti-suicide measure that if you want to rent a gun, you have to either 1) bring one of your own, or 2) come with a friend.

only 3 ranges here sac valley is about 2 and a half hours from the airport and pretty sure they DON'T rent. Cordova shooting center is about an hour closer and rents on weekends i believe. The other is indoor and I usually shoot my ar so never been there.

I didn't think any of the ranges here rent guns unless you bring in one of your own, as well. This is to prevent suicides.

the first 4 words of my post... "a friend and i..."

is James Mangan Rifle & Pistol Range still around? jetblue's firearm/ammo policy seems like it may not be that bad...

Mangans is still here, and the Gun Room rents firearms. You should be good to go.

The Mangan range is still there, but they don't rent guns.

The Gunroom is open until 10 PM...they'll rent to you and your friend.

There is nothing at all close to the Airport.

Flying with handguns isn't a big deal. I usually fly Southwest and they are a breeze...I remember looking at JetBlue's policy and it is pretty much the same.

I'm going to be in AZ (Gunsite) at the end of Sept, otherwise I'd meet you at the range and you could shoot my guns

Sac Valley Shooting Center is my favorite and only about half an hour, and a nice drive, from mid town. -Ben

+1 for Cordova shooting center. They do have several rifles and handguns to rent but they do close at 5. Gun room is pistols only and they Stop renting at 8:45 ish. Never been to sac valley but that's the next place I go when I go shoot again. Cordova is about 25 min from the airport, the gun room is about 40 ish. Give or take about 10 min for traffic. I personally reccomend Cordova. Nice people there and their range is outdoor and is covered. Most of the time they only rent on weekends though. If they are slow they will rent on weekdays though.

Cordova shooting center IMO. I went a year ago when a calgunner was the range master and he helped me out quite a bit. I don't want to put him on the spot, but I'm sure you could PM him and see if he is still there and all. I'll PM you his SN

went to the gun club this evening... nice range with nice staff. only thing i didnt like was the $10 for each gun rental... missing the unlimited rental at lax range for one price. i used the xd9 and my buddy got the g17. brought along a 3rd coworker who has never been shooting before... she wanted to go with lighter round so she rented a p22, which at $4 for a 50 round box was nice.

took the opportunity to see which if i liked the xd or g17 better... i think the g17 felt better and operated better but then again these are range guns which didnt look too good nor shoot straight.

                          thanks for the suggestions!
