Issue with ID while doing a PPT, please help!

Yesterday a fellow Calgunner and I met up at an FFL in OC to do a PPT. When it was time to enter my ID number into the DROS system, an issue came up with my military ID. The new ID's that DOD is making now do not have our social security number on them, which also was the ID number. The new ones have a DOD ID # which is ten digits long, so when it was entered it came up with an error saying the number was too long. The DOJ was then called to try and solve the issue but they were no help. They weren't even aware of the ID's not having a SS# and all they told the guys at the FFL was to get a copy of my actual SS card. Is that the correct thing to do? Isn't my DL, Military I'd, and copy of my original orders enough?

Yes, your DL, Military ID and orders are enough because that is the law. Did the dealer just type-in your SSN?

Just another issue the DROS software people are going to need to deal with. They should have it fixed by the end of next year.

A SS card is NOT a legal form of ID. Also, you are not required to give your SS # on either the 4473 or the DROS form. I'd stand up for my rights and tell them that you do not wish to give that information out. Apparently, Uncle Sam feels the same way since, he just changed the number on your ID card. Your DL and Mil ID should be enough period. But, then again, are you willing to stand up for what you know is right or, do you just want to play their game and get your gun? It's really your call. If it's worth giving in to the state and providing them extra personal information, which they do not need, just to get the transfer over then, it's your decision. If it's worth proving a point and not caving in to the state's strong arm tactics then, stand up and fight for your right to privacy.

I don't really know what they ended up entering on the dros system for the ID number! Hmmmm, now I'm wondering!

I'm thinking that in order to fool the faulty software they probably used your SSN.

I'm going to try and pick up the rifle without my SS card, hopefully they let it go. I was so mad they were trying to get that from me, I just dindt want to be an a**hole to the dudes at the FFL. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Militery member with new ID card- no SSN

I currently have the sme problem, FFL can not complete my transaction because my military ID card doesn not have a social security number on it. Is there a legal fix yet?
