    putting a 6.8 on a 5.56 lower

I have a RAW and want to convert it to a 6.8. I want to know if this is illegal and why, or if it is legal because I plan to hunt with it with a 5 round mag. If it is not legal would I have to install a BB on my registered lower? I do not want to be out there and have my rifle taken away. I personally do not see a difference in what caliber the gun is. Hunters change barrels on bolt guns all the time. yes, my RAW lower is marked 5.56. Do I have to buy a new lower with a BB for my 6.8 upper?

You may put any caliber upper on your RAW lower and use it without a BB. You can even put a .50 BMG upper on it if you so desire. Just carry a copy of your RAW paperwork with you, just in case.

No, it will blow up and is illegal - Send it to me for proper disposal or the California Department of Justice FUD task force will come busting through your door like a bunch of JBT's.....
