Ever had an AD or ND?

Nope. I was there when a buddy of mine had an ND with a 12ga O/U. We were shooting trap, and his gun would always fire bottom barrel first. The choke tube he wanted to use was in the top barrel, so he would load one in the top barrel, pull the trigger once, and then call for the clay to be thrown.
Luckily he was following the other safety rules and the shot hit the grass a few yards ahead of us and nothing important, but it scared the crap out of him. He shot from the bottom barrel for the rest of the day

This is why the rules are so important! They are meant to be followed successively. A AD or ND won't matter if the rules near the top are followed.Nope. Many many years ago, I was shooting Trap (Oaktree) with a bunch of friends using a borrowed shotgun---it was at night and it was freezing out with a bit of cold wind---my hands were really cold and stiff (I didn't even want to be out there)---I called for a bird but none came out (yes, my finger was on the trigger at this point) and the gun fired---I believe a combination of the very cold conditions plus a strange gun with a light trigger contributed to this event (the only AD I have had in 50+ years of shooting). Naturally, the gun was pointed down range and no injuries happened. Oh, I was wearing leather gloves at the time and they were somewhat stiff as well. Always keep your gun pointed in a safe direction!Comment

Yup...
At the Monday Night Shooting League. Readjusted my grip on my S&W 41 and my finger was in the wrong place (on the trigger). BAM. I had the gun low ready so it just hit some brass down range. Because a 9 mm case jumped up, it took the RO a bit to realize I was the problem child. Got a ZERO for that relay. Because of my screw up, they changed the rules and implemented DQ offenses where you are done for the evening, and not just that relay. Please, join the NRA.

Looks like someone did this morning, right down the street from my house no less, I just watched SWAT arrive and "weapon and vest up" not 30 minutes ago.Comment

Bought a Colt New Service recently. Functioned fine without ammo. Loaded a cylinder full at the range, shooting single action. Had the muzzle pointed at a 45 degree angle when I cocked the hammer all the way back and released it. The hammer dropped without pulling the trigger, fired a round that hit my Ruger Mk2 sitting on the bench in front of me. Heard the round ricochet off the pistol receiver. Just grazed the rear sight but broke it and messed up the sight dovetail. Scared the beejeezus out of me! The revolver should have been pointed directly at the target, my fault. The internals in the revolver were all out of sorts. Took it apart and put it together correctly.Comment

About 28 years ago I accidentally discharged a Daisy Red Ryder. The BB bounced off the ceiling of a hallway at my parent's house and rolled around the floor a bit.
Being of the Jeff Cooper school, I took it dead ******* seriously because I also had a Stevens single shot .22 and a Benjamin pump at the time.Comment

I haven't myself but I witnessed my dad experience his one and only ND shooting trap one day. He was frustrated and new to the sport and a malfunction caused my old 1920's Ithica side by side to lock up and then "BOOM". He made a nice little hole a few feet in front of him in the dirt. He was embarrassed to say the least and ever since, like a few of you have mentioned, has been much safer.Comment

Wouldn't call it an AD or ND.Many years ago, while living in my native state of NJ.(Before it went completely off the rails).I bought an SVT-40 at Navy Arms retail store.First time I fired it,instead of one round it fired off three before I let go of the trigger.Quite the surprise. They accidently sold me an AVT-40.Full auto. They were very happy to exchange it the next day.Was a great store.Don't know if it's still there.Comment

Im on the fence on this one being negligent or not. On the one hand, it was neglecting to know the weapon you are firing, and im sure it must have also had a selector switch that was overlooked? But OTOH, only an experienced gun user would know that. Next mistake was to hold the trigger down. Also mainly something an experienced gun user would know.Wouldn't call it an AD or ND.Many years ago, while living in my native state of NJ.(Before it went completely off the rails).I bought an SVT-40 at Navy Arms retail store.First time I fired it,instead of one round it fired off three before I let go of the trigger.Quite the surprise. They accidently sold me an AVT-40.Full auto. They were very happy to exchange it the next day.Was a great store.Don't know if it's still there.
BTW, its not that im playing the blame game or anything like that. Whenever i hear about a situation i just like to analyze it and see how it may have been prevented, to use just for my knowledge. Whenever i handle a gun, i cant help but pay much attention to the position of it in my hand, the position of controls, state of action, position of my trigger finger, direction of aim, etc.
Technically, i suppose it would not be defined as gross negligence. Interesting story, thanks for the contribution.Show your friends your 1911's and your enemies your glocks!
