Using Steel Core rounds at Lytle Creek?

Just bought a Mosin and I was going to order a spam can of surplus ammo for it, but Ive been told that I may have issues being able to use the stuff at shooting ranges....anyone know if Lytle Creek allows you to use this? Ive tried calling them several times but I can never get through to a person. Ive tried searching online and have seen some people that say you cant use it, others say that they have with no issues.

Their web site specifically says that they don't allow steel core ammo. That most likely means that they don't allow steel jacketed ammo either. Apparently they have had a lot of fires at that range.

all socal ranges have had fires due to steel in bullets either steel core or steel jacket.

yugo ammo is the only milsurp ammo for the mosin that is good to shoot year round, and just save the other stuff for rainy days when burro canyon allows steel core/steel jacketed ammo to be shot.

One of the ROs at Lytle told me they allow steel core during the rainy season but it would be better to just bring lead core ammo if you can.

Burro Canyon does allow magnetic ammo during certain seasons (wet not hot months)
Its best to call ahead or bring other ammo with you so that you are not SOL

Ive been to Lytle creek a bunch of times and see steel cases all over the floor and they have 2 buckets at each shooting station , 1 for brass 1 for steel. Ive never had them check any ammo I have.

yeah is it, steel casing is different from steel core. i've seen fires occur b/c someone tries to shoot at a rock with steal core bullets. i guess it creates a spark. Luckly the one i saw wasn't a big and put out quickly.

Some magnetic ammo will look like fireworks at dusk; it is a legitimate concern.
