    Lost and Found

    Hello Everybody:

The following is an incident that happened to me. I thought I should it share it

with you my buddies, and at the same time get more info as to what I should

    watch for.

Back in July 2009 I was at Bass Pro Shop in Manteca shopping for a shotgun.

It was around noon, and it took me more than three hours inside the store.

When I went out and was heading to my car I found that my car was broken

into and the burglar(s) stole EVERYTHING of value. That included :

    1- My first gun ever: glock 36 ( 45 cal sub-compact )
    2- Laptop
    3- Cell phone of course
4- my bag which included lots of little useful things, including some cash.

I hurried inside the store and told them about the robbery, and these guys

were really helpful and they tried everything they could, including rolling back

the cameras and see if they catch the moment of robbery, yet I was not lucky

enough to spot anyone around my car at that particular moment.

All the stolen items were on the car floor at the back and the windows are

deep-tinted, there is no way to see them espcially during sunny day and tinted

windows, especially that my bag was block and the gun box was under the back

seat. My guess is that someone was watching for a good catch and they were

or he was very lucky in his choice. And I definitely locked my car.

They contacted police, and they were at the scene in lightning speed.

There was not visible sign of damage or forceable entry, and I remember

locking my car. But, hey, a jimmy can do it easily.

Anyways, I gave up hope in finding those scumbags that did it and of course

had NO hope whatsoever in getting my stuff back.

During last month ( July again ) I received a letter from ...Guess Where....Fresno

Police Department that they found a gun, ran the serial number, and tracked

it to ME. THEY FOUND MY GUN.

Fresno Police has been really professional and still on top of the process and

it is a matter of time before I can go down there and pick up my gun.

thank you for taking the time to read this and I appreciate any feedback and

advice and/or what I should watch for.

    Robert.

Even though you say you did, it sounds like you didn't lock your door. It happens.

The theives were probably cruising the parking lot, just trying doors and yours popped open when they tried it. I doubt they even knew there was anything valuable in the vehicle until they tried the door and it opened. Robbery of oportunity.

+1 to Vanguard's post, I would venture to think most gun owners probably don't keep a record of all their serial numbers, it's usually a good idea when something like this happens, if fact I keep a record on my Palm so I don't have to look for anything if there's a question...let us know how it goes with Fresno PD getting your roscoe back...congrats!

I have a list of all mine. Keep a list at a trusted friends house in case of computer crash or break in.
The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.

Some idiots are too busy knowing it all to ever learn anything

What kind of car do you have? I can open a Honda door in about 7 sec with no key or breaking windows. Actually I have gotten into Hundai's and Toyotas the same way. And Im no professional lol Im just an idiot who locks his keys in the car all the time.

Slim Jim. Or check your door handle bezel , that's a weak point in chevy doors.
