I was unlucky enough to take a large contract in Los Banos in March. Its not paradise for sure.
I love America for the rights and freedoms we used to have.

Los Banos, I've passed through there dozens of times throughout my life time. Didn't think much of it. Didn't know it was that bad but then again all I've ever seen of Los Banos is the main street, Highway 152.

that's always the easy way out. How about digging deeper and getting to the real problem?

I dont' go there much, haven't been there in years, but just have a friend who's really bugged. Hoping maybe an idea might come out that he can mention when he goes to the community meetings on the topic.
The violence is connected to some Mexican cartels, but also to some outlaw MCs. Some MCs are linked to cartels in dealing drugs, firearms and running prostitution rings.

Most illegals in and around Los Banos are there to work and keep a low profile.

The local city/town can't ban firearms - San Francisco has already been down that sad road.

Please encourage them to try, though - LB sounds small enough that CGF could probably just foreclose on City Hall after they failed to pay the legal fees for the resulting lawsuit. We'd change the name of the town to Calguns, name Gene as the Chief of Police, open up the world's biggest trailer park (with the world's cheapest trailers) within city limits, and then the Police Chief could issue statewide LTC's to all of the new residents of the city of Calguns.

Seriously, don't stress about local gun bans, they can't do it.

What would be worth considering is exactly what the character of the violence is - is this loser vs. loser, or loser vs. cop, or loser vs. citizen, or ??

If the bikers/gangsters are shooting each other, you carrying a gun (open or concealed) isn't going to change that, or protect you from stray gunfire.

If felons are carrying guns and shooting each other, passing a city ordinance prohibiting their possession of firearms (already illegal per CA and federal law) is unlikely to help.

Rather than screeching at the city/LEO's to "do something! do something!" it might be helpful to ask the LEO's what, if anything would be helpful to them. Maybe they need local landlords to be proactive re denying residences to losers. Maybe they need tips about grow operations or meth labs. Maybe they need people who witness crimes to give them tips so they've got probable cause or a reasonable articulable suspicion for a stop or a search.

Maybe they need more funds. Or more reserve officers.

Unless the local sheriff or PD wanted to start handing out carry permits en mass (not sure if they are already virtual shall issue there) then I don't see how the town can override CA PC 12031 and the GFSZ laws.

Violence is acatually a good sign that a town is not being used as a waypoint, and is actually indicitave of an absence of organized crime.

Many of the smaller towns along highway 101 actually are under mandate by the mexican mafia or other major crime syndicate to keep things artificially peacefull.

The big players keep a surprising amount of controll over the smaller fish.

The really crazy violence is usually a good sign that there is a power vaccume at the higher levels or the town is not 'under management'...

Well not always lol... My mother moved from Arkansas to Dos Palos/Los Banos area back in 1938 and lived there for 14 years before moving up to the Susanville area. Back then she tells stories of having to open a gate to use the highway and how it was a large farming community where everyone knew well, everyone!

Times have changed a lot for that little area and not for the best. Such a little community for so many problems!
