I have one. Its a cheapo from harbor freight but its wire fed. When I use it, it still pops a little though, I dont know if its because I dont know what Im doing or just ****ty. My friend said its because I dont know what Im doing though (proper cleaning of surface, two power settings, and a range of feed speed.) But if you know what your doing then send a pm.

Does the welder use gas? The arc welders that don't use gas always get the pops. The gas helps stop that.

Its this mig welder right here:

So no gas, I only bought it because I had to weld an exhaust hanger under my car. So there was still residue from the under carriage coating, upside down, and have exactly no knowledge about welding. Basically just went at it. Thats why my friend said it was me and not the welder. I guess it could be a semi last resort if you cant find one to use.

Mig welders use two Diff. kinds of wire.

If you are not using gas the wire has a flux core that creates a gas bubble around the weld and causes all the spattering.

If your using gas the spattering is much less in part because you can use solid wire with out the flux core.

ahh im in so cal but i have a welder and everything you need

I would def. use a welder with a inert gas or at least flux core you might be able to get away with jb weld but if you want is super permanent i would just take it to your local exhaust shop or welding shop i bet you can give the guy 5 or 10 bucks to do it. if not let me know i work for fedex will ship it i'll tack it and ship it back prob. in a day i'll do it for free because its karma and i luv guns but. really your better off goin to a exhaust shop

I'd go to a machine shop. A nice TIG weld is preferred over a MIG weld, if just for aesthetics. Anything you can MIG you can TIG. Go toward the end of the day, offer beer, look for four wheel drives, etc. Or, a car or truck racing shop. Great potential for a quickie job done for cheap.

I just replaced my original Millermatic 35 (still for sale) with a new Miller wire welder using an argon / CO2 mix. The argon mix makes for far less spatter than straight CO2 which MIGs can also use when cost is a factor.

I just put 3 tack welds on my side folder this last weekend. I turned the gas up a bit higher than normal and coated the tip of the gun with anti spatter jell; it worked great! Set my heat a little high and worked fast also. Id help out but my shops in the foothills. Shop rate for mig is a hell of allot cheaper then tig and faster. Id imagine the shop would do it for a quick 20 under the table or a sixer. Good luck definitely puts it above the 30 inch minimum and id try to keep the tacks from super deep penitration in case laws change ( ya right on that one).
