    Home made shooting mat?

Trying to figure out something inexpensive as a shooting mat. What materials or already made mats/canvas's do you have experience with? It does not need to serve as a rifle case, I don't need a pocket for my shooting book, or anything else. Something padded would be cool, but just curious what materials someone may suggest.

A long gun bag zipped all the way open. Problem solved.

A lot of people use moving blankets.

If I am feeling like a pansy or a girl is shooting, I use the Voodoo deluxe shooting bag/mat. Carries everything I need for a longrange shoot. But the concrete feels sooo goooood!

I use an old scrap of carpet.

It's starting to stink, so I might have to go dumpster diving for a new one.

I went to a carpet store and asked them for any leftover pieces over a certain size. They went into the back and dug up like three of them and I paid $15 for them, and another $5 for two pieces that were smaller, but had trim around them (I think they were samples). I have them on my workbench to soak up solvents when I clean my guns. Save yourself the future emotional/physical scarring of jumping into a dumpster. hahahaha

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

I have found rugs work great even better than the shooting mats you buy.
This take a little time to find the right mat. Try Bed Bath & Beyond your wife will help you find the right one.

Might be a winner here. I have been using a basic and cheap camping pad I picked up at an REI used gear sale for $5.

Moving blankets. A lot of places (harware stores, Uhauls, etc.) sell them for very cheap.

BIG 5 has sleeping bag / exercize mats starting at $20. They roll up and store nicely.
