    Storage hunters?

I appologise if its been asked before, but, what are the rules for these guys?
They buy a storage unit at auction, and find guns on occasion. what are the laws pertaining to their transfer of these guns they find and turn over right away?
Does the buyer ultimatly need to send in the $20 transfer form to DOJ, or, Do they ultimatly have to take the firearm to a licensed dealer and do the wait?

They take the gun to an FFL (typically they have a "usual" place they go to if they'd been in the business for a while) and you start the dros. Durring this time the serial number is ran to make sure the gun or guns have never been used in a crime or have been stolen. If it clears than after 10 days they are yours to keep, sell and or trade (assuming it's in cali of course).

I would assume "asault weapons" would have to be turned in for destruction, or removed from the state ASAP. Probably same with HiCap Mags.

Ca. does not allow them to be transfered.

Yes, this would be the procedure if the "artifacts" were real. Auction Hunters is scripted, the storage units are salted by the show's producers. Storage Wars is more realistic, but I believe it may also be "helped" along.

I'd be curious about that one, considering you can technically legally purchase and find hicap mags in California.

Actually you cant unless you are a LEO. All other sales referances are to "repair kits" which are then illegal to assemble in CA.

nothing in the law forbids purchase of magazines with a capacity greater than 10 rounds.

Nor does it say you cant possess them. You just cant sell, import, or manufacture them. If you found a storage locker full to the brim with hi-cap mags you could use and keep every one of them. As long as they where all assembled that is, you cant find a locker full of re-build kits and assemble them all.

Finding hi caps is perfectly legal.

                      Umm....... they're both heavily scripted.

Both shows have caused a lot of animosity in the industry. Because people actually believe that you can find all of that good stuff in a unit. So the newbs are driving the prices up to stupid levels.

I've been buying and selling lockers as a side line for several years and what was a $300 locker in '05 is a $1300 locker now.

..... and they're still full of dirty underwear, stained matresses and used latex adult items.

Rarely do you find guns. People only put into storage what they cannot take with them for whatever reason. The good stuff usually goes to a relative for safe keeping.

Trust me the reality is waaayyy different than what you see on tv.

Read what you just posted closely (do you see anything about purchasing?), then read what I posted. It is NOT illegal to purchase, find or possess large capacity magazines in CA, regardless of who you are.

So if I understand what you are saying correctly:
You buying them, or possesing them, is legal... PERIOD!

The only illegal act would be on the part of the person selling them (or in this case, the contents of the SU if the operator NEW they were in there.)

                            Am I getting this now?

Yes, that is correct - you are getting it now.
Though there is also speculation that if you are buying them from someone who is willing to illegally sell them to you, then it's conspiracy or something of that note and you may still be charged. So, basically it shouldn't be done, but technically the law does not explicitly state that it is illegal. Fun stuff, huh?

Oh and the most important thing you should take away from this is the fact that you should never be talking about who, where or how you have acquired any of your magazines. Period. You legally possess them and it's nobody's business, especially not the laws!
