Casing that cracked and peeled back?

I was shooting my Springfield 1911 today, and as I was picking up my casings, I noticed one of them had cracked and peeled back at the mouth. None of the other brass I picked up looked like this. It came out of batch of WWB. Anyone know what might have caused it?

I dont know what could have caused it. How do you know that it happen in your gun? It could have happened once it left your gun. Perhaps it hit the ground just right and did that. Just a thought.

I thought about if it might have happened after it was ejected, but it landed in a sandy area with no big rocks about.

No one was around. I was shooting off Shockey Truck Trail in Campo. Place is remote as all get out, and it was where all my spent casings were. It might have been a casing from someone else, but I really didn't see any other .45 casings. - mostly .40

I got caught by the slide as it was being ejected. As the slide came forward it hit the casehead and jammed the mouth of the case into the barrel hood.

Is that something I should be concerned about, or is it something that just happens every so often?

If it happens more constantly then I would be concerned. Then again you cant really prove it came from your pistol either. I say stop worrying and keep shooting.

Once in awhile the 1911 will kick one out like that unless it happens often I wouldn't worry about it. If it happens often I would have someone check the extractor tension.

Since the gun didn't jam when it did it I wouldn't be concerned.
