    1911 opinions

I am looking at a possible 1911 purchase. I would like a commander size or full size. I would prefer one all steel but will consider other options. I need it to be reliable first, accurate, and ready to shoot out of the box. I don't care to customize the pistol, other than to maybe change the sights. I am open to all suggestions but need to stay around $1000 bucks or less. I want the best bang for my buck. Thanks all.

I bought a S&W 1911 stainless at BassPro on sale for less than a grand. That gun is the most accurate pistol I have ever had! BassPro has another firearms sale starting Monday.

I really like my new Commander. I took it out for the first shoot and put over 300 trouble free rounds through it. I can't consistently shoot well but when I did, it was spot on.

I over paid at $1049 but it was the first SS 100 year that I have seen and I really wanted it.

My first choice would be a S&W SW1911 (stainless only) and my second would be a Springfield Armory "Loaded". Both are very reliable but the fit and finish and factory trigger on the Smith tend to be a bit better. Both have superb service and lifetime warranties. I suggested stainless because for a while S&W bluing was a bit thin but that may have changed.

Wild Sports may have what you are looking for. Picked up a Springfield GI there a while back, just what the doctor ordered.

I know not everyone likes kimbers due to bad rep they got durring the days when they used external extractors and the trash talk still carries on today even though the issues have been fixed.

But my custom II is a beast. It just runs so good like a well oiled machine. It was low 700$ range and all kimbers come w/ match grade parts stock which is nice. Lots of good reviews on calguns too so I'm not the only one who likes em.

Thanks everyone for the input. I was looking hard at the S.A. loaded and glad to see so many like that gun. I had a operator and a nice Colt and should have never let them go. But like I stated I am looking at the best choice for under $1000 and the S.A. loaded, and Kimber were the ones I have looked at most. I was not aware the S&W could be had for $1000 or less. Thanks

+ another for SA. That was my first 1911, and I have several other SAs "on my list."

+ another 1 for the Springfield Armory 1911. Also, look at the TRP. They're REALLY nice but a little bit more expensive. I lean more towards Kimbers though....I recently purchased a Gold Match II.

+1 on SW 1911 with adjustable rare I like them in Blue. +3 on SA, and if you want to collect, buy an older Colt series 70.

SA Trophy Match is worth looking at but around 1500 or so.
