This probably was posted in the past but since its been several years many may not have seen it. Note the pistol was found still cocked and locked:

That's it. Ban MRI machines. Problem solved. Move along, nothing to see here.

This story begs the question... why would someone be so stupid as to bring a couple of pounds of ferrous metal into a magnetic imaging chamber? Were the big signs outside the imaging room not enough warning? Good grief.

I have stainless steel hardware in one of my legs and my doc made it very clear to me that so long as I have it I can go nowhere near an MRI. The doc's reckoning was that the results would be similar to when the alien popped out of John Hurt's chest.

Wife has stainless and titanium material in her neck.

She's had well over two dozen MRIs since the surgery, no issues at all.

But if your doc says no, then I'm not going to tell you to do it.

God bless her. I've gotten to the age where I am starting to have some issues with disk degeneration and would love for my current doc to get a good quality image but they don't want to put me in the machine. The plate in my leg is pretty good size with five large screws so I've always figured it was the mass of material that would be the issue.

Thanks for the 411... I think I'll talk to my doc again about it.

Are you sure they weren't CT scans? No way you can get an MRI with stainless implants.

BTW, aside from the guy being a dumbass for bringing a gun into an MRI room, that's a huge fluke that it went off like that with a FP block.

If anyone has to get hardware installed be sure to insist on titanium because it can not react to magnetism and it wont be picked up by metal detectors at the airport...

                  Just double checked.

MRIs... her original injury was 1998, surgery was 2001, and she's probably had 2 MRIs a year since then.

She does trigger the metal detectors at the airport.

Stainless is non ferrous so it's not like the magnet would eat your leg and not give it up.

Wow. Great detailed explanation of the events.

I agree though, metal in a MRI room, I thought this was common sense.

Wow, I am sorry she had to endure that.

Stainless steel is a ferrous metal, its majority alloy material is iron, it's considered non-magnetic at low field strengths...but can become magnetic in high field MRI's.

Normally , if the type if stainless repair is anchored well...as in hip replacement or most back fusions it wont be an issue at all. But stick someone with stainless stents into a high field MRI , and it will rip right through.
