    Just an FYI

    Hi All,

I just want to pass on some info that came my way. I am an International Freight Forwarder and every now and again we get sent messages pertaining to criminal actions and punishment to individuals for illegal shipping. This message I saw today I found particularly interesting. A gentleman named Andrew O'Donnell was sentenced to 3 years in prison for shipping EOTech sights to Hong Kong and catagorized it as " toys ". Hong Kong happens to be a destination where this kind of item requires a State Department License to make shipping these legal. He sold these items from an on line auction store. A license would also be required to ship a rifle scope, iron sights, etc. So if your thinking about shipping items like these overseas ( I.E. a rifle scope sold on Ebay ) it is in your best interest to do some homework before exporting. Your freedom could be at stake.

    Just thought I'd share.

This rings that bell about the recent massacre in Norway where he said he bought his mags from a USA seller who shipped them to him. Not sure if that has yet been proven to be true, but same scenario. Even worse since this guy used them to kill people.

I thought this was going to be about people advocating to label firearms as "machine parts" or other such stupidity in lieu of declaring as required.

Man you would be surprised just how many laws are broken when you ship outside the US. If you have shipped outside the US the odds are real good you have broken some law.

Were they real eotech sights? i have a feeling it was airsoft gear, which would technically still be a "rifle sight" but I can see why he put toys (if that was the case).

This is what I was thinking, if it's an airsoft scope I would probably consider it just a toy too

No they were the genuine article. And get this, While the BIS ( Bureau of Industry and Security ) was investigating the guy they had uncovered that he shipped a stripped upper receiver (1) inproperly as well. When they start to investigate you they will rip up your whole life.

                      ITAR is serious business.

When I used to sell on Ebay, I learned that shipping anything abroad opens a Pandora's Box of regulations I didn't want to get involved in.
