anybody tell me why some people choose to buy demilled guns?

like to get more info on why people buy demilled parts kits?

    1) is it for the enjoyment of putting one back together?
    2) is it cheaper than buying a already finished one?
    3) is it you can buy parts you normally wouldnt get?

i seen some aks parts kits but for around $400 i can get a finished one, whats up with that? any info is helpful

It's fun building them your way. It's almost always cheaper to just buy one.

its way more fun to make the gun exactly the way you want it and when its done its a lot more yours then a store pickup. same reason people restore cars. plus when i make them theyre a lot better than typical cheapos on the market

A lot of folks would "remill" them. Guess it makes sense if its something rare like a Degytarev or whatever. It might even be cost effective if you are crazy good at welding and machining them back together and have the jigs already made and inspection table set up for gauging tolerances and whatnot.

Its fun! Plus it can be cheaper if you think about it. IMI Galil isnt even available in Ca. In other states, I hear they can run about $1600. Demilled kit is $300. Cut reciever is $15. Add compliance parts and build to your specs, about $400 total on the lower end. Even if you compare that to a Century Golani at about $600, its a better price on a better gun. Subtract ALL taxes/dros fees and youre way ahead of the game. Plus YOU BUILT IT YOURSELF. The badass factor alone makes it worth it.

Because in many cases, that is the only way you are going to get one.

For example - you want a non full auto MP5 in a free state. Not going to happen usually.

So, you buy a parts kit that comes from a chopped up gun, weld it to new flats and bam, you've got a clone that is SBR'd with a semi auto trigger pack.

Sometimes, although sometimes the time saved in buying something saves my sanity... heh

Some of these kits are hard to get pieces, and if you are an aficionado, or serious collector, it may be the only way to get that "missing piece."

I have some hanging on the wall. A little JB weld and some elbow grease can fill in the frame cuts on some of the more exotic things to make them more aesthetically pleasing. My 1895 Steyr looks like a functional gun to anyone without a well trained eye but the action still functions enough to fool most people. I guess they don't pay much attention to holes cut in the barrel, welded firing pin holes, filled barrels, etc...

AK build is going to be MUCH easier for a first build, unless you come upon a CETME/HK bending jig/have pretty good TIG skills/can find a flat. CETME requires some work to appease ATF. Lotsa welding.
