Ruger
A cop buddy of mine talked me into a small, revolver for summer carry when I'm wearing lightweight clothing and/or have my shirt tucked in. He simply carries his in his pants pocket.
After looking into the offerings, I went with the S&W bodyguard w/laser. As a lefty the laser is very nicely situated for me to activate as my left thumb falls naturally to it.
Very nice little gun, but after owning it for awhile, I probably should have chosen either a Scandium framed .357 version, or the LCR in .38 or .357.
My logic? I don't much like the trigger pull on the S&W. People I've spoken with who have experience with both say that the Ruger has a much smoother pull. Secondly, the Ruger already comes with Hogue grips. The S&W grips are much smaller, and don't offer the same firm grip or recoil absorption as the Hogue's. At this time, there are no aftermarket grips availalbe for the Bodyguard.
Lastly, I'm still not sold on the 5 shot limit of these small revolvers. Even with a speed loader handy (as a lefty this is not a fun exercise), I've still got one shot less available to me than what I normally carry in a pistol (10+1).
As a result, I'd rather what I fire downrange have more ooomph than a .38.
I haven't seen the .357 LCR but I have handled the Scandium frame S&W and it actually weighs less thant he Bodyguard and is the same size. Of course it is nearly $900!!
In any event, I recommend the LCR in .357.
