    How to buy a gun...

I'm not sure where best to post this...

How do people do a person to person transfer where both persons aren't in the same place (they are both in the same state)? How does one safely transfer the money? If I'm the buyer there's no way I'm going to send the money to the seller (a person I don't know) and wait for an unseen gun to show up at my FFL. Do the buyer and seller find a trusted FFL who will also deal with the money? How is the paperwork done if the seller isn't there?

    Am I missing something?

Best way is to send a postal money order. That way if the other person flakes out you can get them for postal fraud. And US Post Office will investigate!

      +1 on the previous post!

To which I'd add- if you're doing this via a auction site, check out thier reports, if they're new....I wont say be suspicious...but DEFINITELY be cautious. Dont know about you...but If I HAD to loose on a deal via a newbie- rather loose $200 than $2000!

If its NOT an auction site, see if you cant just meet Face to face and both of you choose an FFL. Might be a lil' hard on the meet times, but that way you definitely know what you're getting and they definitely know they're getting paid.

Pay by Check???? I dunno about that one, I might not want the buyer to know my address............not to mention all the phoney checks out there (and NON US postal orders too!)

If the person wont meet FTF, I'd walk.....BIG RED FLAG in my book, especially if you're even (say..) within 2 hours drive time to the guy........

The USPS money order sounds like a very good idea... Sometimes the face to face can't really be done... CA is a big state.

+1 on the USPS. They get REALLY pissed when people start commiting mail fraud.

I may be mistaken here but the PPT I have done in CA Both people have to show up in person at the FFL, if you can find a ffl to allow just the weapon to show up - go for it - but I would first make sure that your FFL will allow a weapon from CA to be sent with out the other person actually being there... and buying a weapon unseen is not rare at all - Trust has to be there - get a three day or 24 hour inspection - ask if they take paypal - have them take the weapon to a local FFL/gun store - have them check it out and ship it?? all just suggestions... if you do not feel good about a deal - back out - its not worth the headaces - I just sold a M14SA to a person in San Jose, I live in Turlock - we are going to meet in Trace at a FFL - He has already sent me $$. Now he nows my home phone, address and where I work - If I keep his $$ and not show up - he can make my life hell....

So, do your homework, ask questions and Listen... you should be OK...

DO NOT USE PAY PAL... If they find out that you are getting a gun, they will cancel your acount and make life bad for you...... Pay-pal sucks for gun stuff...
(they have specific rules prohibiting gun purchases with their service...)
