    Evidence Gun

Having read that someone's USP got taken as 'evidence' in a good home-defense shoot, it made me wonder...

What gun (generally or specifically) would YOU not mind being seized as 'evidence' and not getting back until hell froze over?

I'd say any sub-$300 shotgun, comparatively low price to my favorite handguns being my only consideration.

I've already got one. A Remington 870 "Home Defense" model. 18.5" factory barrel with the factory magazine extension. $300 retail after tax. Added a Surefire forearm light on it which increased the value slightly, but still something I won't care about when it's retained for evidence.

I definitely won't be using a registered AW as a home defense gun because of the 'evidence' retention implications.

Would it be considered tampering with evidence if you removed the light before they arrived at the crime scene?

Yea if they took my USP, it'll just give me a reason to buy another USP to replace it. Then when I get my 'evidence gun' back it'll be like Christmas. Though for home it'll usually be my Glock 36 or XD40 service.

Those $120 Hi-Point C9's don't sound like such a bad idea now do they?

I'd rather lose a gun than lose my life. I'm going to use the best gun I can get for the task at hand and not worry over the cost. I would think it much better to have a gun you trust ,as opposed to one you wouldn't mind losing.

I have a Glock in 45 auto for that purpose.

Hmm, time to get a second GLock if my G36 ever ends up sitting in evidence room for a few years.

Hmmm, at first I aggree'd with the first post.
                        Then I agree'd with LTS15D's and 461's post.
Then I thought about it, 870's are cheap compared to my hk usp .45, but that doesnt mean 870's are junk.

I'd think if you ever have to make the decision to shoot in a home defense situation, you'd want to make sure that you have the best gun under the circumstances, regardless of price. Depends on what price you put on your life.
