Who here has heard of the term "Mexican Match" for reloading?

I am stumped. In close to 25 years of shooting, I had never heard of this term. Some of the other people commenting on a thread about this in the C&R section said that it refers to pulling out the old bullet from a loaded cartridge and replacing it with a match bullet. I understand the concept, but I wanted to find out if I was the only one living under a rock and ignorant of this term.

There's a lot of "mexican" terms.

Mexican stand-off, mexican carry(oddly enough this one goes back to the loss of gun rights in Mexico and how the rancheros had to carry their weapons discreetly after they were made illegal)... "mexican match" really doesn't surprise me.

Ive always understood Mexican match as refering to a very specific combination of old lake city m118 and 168gr SMKs.

If you google "mexican match ammo" you do get consistent returns supporting the definition from the other thread. And no, I hadn't heard of it before, but when I read the title of the original thread and the first post, I guessed what it was.

One is more likely to have heard it if they have an interest in silhouette, long range or high power competition.

It was a very common term in the 1980's among the Highpower shooters.

So right now it is running 85%+ have not heard the term before. I don't feel so bad now. I guess it is an older term that was limited to specific shooting groups.
