If you've been cleaning your gun for over an hour, you are no longer cleaning it; you are damaging it.

Do not worry about getting a patch to come out of your barrel perfectly clean - it just won't happen.

Run no more than about 6 patches through your barrel, any more than that & you are wasting your time & causing unnecessary wear & tear on the gun.

you're fine so long as it is a THIN layer...after storage (even medium term) might wanna run a rod through it just to clear out any that may have congealed. It IS an awsome protectorant though;;;;;;;;; JUST had a guy here last week clamouring that he'd stashed his gun for 25 years (TWENTY FIVE YEARS!!!!) and put on CLP and waas complaining that it was hardened up and caked up to a goo--> BUT THE GUN WAS FINE UNDERNEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      CLP= good stuff

I just ordered a bunch of M-Pro 7 from Brownells. I'm excited to try it out.

The absolute best way to clean copper out of a barrel COMPLETELY is to use 26% aqua ammonia mixed with a little dish soap. Use it in a well ventilated area or you could find yourself tits up. This will melt the copper out of your barrel period.

If you don't want to expose yourself to harsh chemicals then get some of Boretechs "Eliminator" copper solvent and then jump over to www.slip2000.com and get some of their "Carbon Killer".

Silly question, are you letting it soak a bit before running a bore brush through it then the patches?

I like to run a very wet patch through (Hoppes), clean the rest of the gun, then a bore brush a couple of times, a pass with a bore snake then another wet patch (CLP) and finally dry patches before a lightly oiled patch through it.

I'll let pistol barrels soak in a small baking tin filled with enough MPro while I clean the rest of the gun and finish like above.

those of you into CLP, the new smith and wesson stuff has a better solvent... the foaming stuff doesnt seem to lube as well as the liquid, but fill your barrel and let it sit for about 5-10 mins and snake it and its damned near spotless...

we got some samples from our distributor at TMW and i fell in love... the liquid is what i have been using now...

the only issue i have is, i cant find it for sale anywhere.

Barrel and bore cleaning, copper fouling removal and bore protection for precision rifle shooting. Tips from Champion shooters John Brewer and Broughton barrels Tim North. Solvent and cleaner application guide for Blue Wonder, MPro7, Montana Extreme, Bore-Tech, Top Engine Cleaner, Hoppes, Sweets. I've been very happy with MPro7 and I just got a bottle of Wipe-out to try. MPro7 doesn't smell as bad as Hoppes and in my opinion cleans better.

Roo - I clean the carbon out every 200 - 300 rounds or when my groups start to open. I deep clean about every 1K rounds or when a std cleaning won't reduce my groups. I have a custon Rock barrel though so YRMV especially if you have a factory barrel.
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

I use mPro-7, their cleaner, CLP, and if needed their bore cleaner (unbelievable what it can do even your patch come clean after regular cleaning.).

For me and my allergies to everything that has a scent, it may be "Invisible Gun" - if I could ever figure out where to get a kit.

Put down the cleaning rod and let the solvent (whichever one you choose) do the work.
